Edmund was almost certain that his parents had no wish for him to turn up to their yearly Christmas gathering. That the only reason they had even sent him the invitation was because they were positive that he would not turn up. Considering how much of a disaster their Christmas dinner the year before had been... it was exactly for that reason that Edmund decided to turn up. If they did not want him there, then they could very well deal with him being a pest. He was certainly not above that.
Evanna had raised her eyebrow at him when she had told him, but said that would come with him. Maybe the fact that she was holding a small squirming child would divert some of the attention off him. Though did he want that? He was quite content to ruin the family Christmas by being a general pain. It was nothing less than they deserved.
He'd also convinced Ares along, which was completely worth it even if just for the look on his mother's face as he walked in the door. This was going to be fun.
Spotting Leo and Lyanna standing to the side of the room talking, he frowned a little bit. He had heard about what had happened there. Not that it was much of a surprise. Of course they would be trying to avoid the younger children doing something as damaging to the family reputation as he did.
"I'm going to go and talk to Lyanna," he said to Ares. "You're welcome to come with." He didn't want to just abandon him to the mercy of his family. Once Ares had made his decision, Edmund walked over to the children. "Hello."

In all of the years he'd known Edmund, in all of the years they'd been together, Ares had never once gone to Christmas with him. That was just a mess that he was not going to deal with. One Everhart was actually more than enough usually, but Ares loved Edmund so he'd given in just this once and gone with the blonde to see his family. He knew that none of it was going to go over well, considering they didn't exactly like him, but that was fine really. After the disaster that was last Christmas, Ares was all for enacting a little bit of revenge on them. The visit to Edmund's parents directly following the event hadn't satisfied his need to make them suffer a little.
Perhaps he should have left the suffering at the expressions they got when they walked through the door, but Ares was a Kastor. And that meant a few expressions weren't nearly good enough. He wanted to cause real drama. It would be fun. Maybe he'd get a laugh or two or a duel out of it. Dueling on Christmas sounded thrilling.
However, he did have the good sense to not just start something because he could. He'd let someone provoke him first. Or provoke Edmund. Both were equally likely. When Edmund said that he was going to go talk to the teenagers off to the side, Ares shook his head. That was something he was going to stay out of because it wasn't what he'd come here for and it wasn't really his place to meddle there. "I'm gonna go have another fun chat with your father, I think," he told the blonde giving him a kiss on the cheek before the two went their separate ways. Mostly because he wanted to, but also to be a brat a bit.

@edmund , @lyanna
Spending Christmas with the family of the girl that his parents were trying to force him to marry was not exactly Leo's idea of a good time. He would much rather be at home and away from the expectant gazes of the adults surrounding him. He would much rather not have to deal with this at all. He just wanted Peter. That's all he ever wanted. The time when that was all there would be couldn't come quickly enough. However, right now he still had a part to play. He still had to behave like a good son. It wasn't exactly the most fun he'd ever had. At least Lyanna wasn't horrible. That was probably the only highlight of this whole mess.
Although the room had been noisy before, from so many people holding conversations at once, the level increased even more suddenly and Leo watched as two more men joined the gathering. So that was why people were suddenly talking more. He was so distracted that he completely missed whatever it was Lyanna had just said to him. "What?" he asked as he turned back to her. The gossip of adults wasn't something he cared much for.
Until there was an adult walking their way. He probably should have known who it was, but he hadn't really paid enough attention to the names of anyone. He hadn't figured they'd be important enough to know considering he was jumping ship as soon as he was of age. It wasn't like they'd be having a lot of gatherings like this being off at school most of the year. "Hi," he responded as he tried to pull a name from the deep depths of his mind.
Leo may not have been particularly pleased to have been there, but truthfully, Lyanna was partly glad that he was. At least it meant that she could spend the evening talking to a person that she did like, as opposed to her family. There was only so many times she could deal with getting asked how old she was now, what she was planning to do after school, and what she thought about her subjects.
Of course, the pay off was that her family was expecting her to marry the boy that she was standing beside - which did turn this into something more of an act than just talking to a friend from school.
"Ooh, Evanna brought the baby," she said peering around Leo to Evanna, Kody, and the baby in her arms. She was going to have to wander over there earlier to see the child.
At the sudden surge in volume, Lyanna's gaze was pulled from Evanna to the door. And there was Edmund walking in. With somebody else. She raised her eyebrows. Not only hadn't she been expecting her cousin to turn up - all things considered - the fact that he had brought along his fiance... Oh this was going to get interesting. Maybe there was fun to be had at this party after all.
She was however, a little bit surprised when the duo parted, and her cousin made his way over to them. "Hello, Edmund," she greeted. "This is Leo Holmes."
Edmund gave a faint smile as Ares kissed him on the cheek, and then his eyes trailed his fiance as he moved in the direction of his father. That was only going to end poorly. And he was a little disappointed that he was not actually going with Ares to watch that entertainment unfold. Perhaps if he was lucky it would get loud enough from where he was.
"Pleasure," Edmund said to Leo, eyes flickering over the boy. He may protest the way that his family judged his decision making, but that had not put a complete halt to his judgemental characteristics. Time would tell what he thought of the boy in front of him.
His gaze shifted to Lyanna who was watching him. "Well I couldn't let all the gossip happen without me here to hear it," he said, answering her unasked question of why he had turned up. Because he knew she'd be thinking it.

The name rang a small bell in Leo's mind which was useful. It explained enough that he could get an idea of the man in front of him before they'd even spoken any. "Nice to meet you, Edmund," he said as sincerely as he could manage, though he was honestly a bit disillusioned about all of the Everharts but Lyanna currently. This one hadn't done anything to him and appeared to be a source of drama but all the same. He was quite curious about the man coming to join the two of them instead of staying with the person he'd brought along though. That didnt' seem to make a lot of sense.
What in Merlin's name was her cousin doing here? Here as in in this building at all, and here as in standing where they were. Her eyes flickered past her cousin to his parents, and they certainly did not looked pleased at the boy being there - especially as his partner had approached them. Her gaze turned back to Edmund as he spoke, and she gave the faintest of smiles. "I think you being here worsened it," she said. Though she couldn't deny that it certainly would have been there whether he was or not. Edmund was the talk of the family.
"Very likely, yes," he agreed, eyes glancing back across the room to where Ares and his father was. Ares coming had certainly worsened it more than it would have by just him - but that was the fun of it, wasn't it? He did quite enjoy causing a scene.
His eyes glanced over the two children in front of him. They were really too young for this, too young for their families to be demanding this from them. But that didn't matter to their families, did it? "I hear you two are betrothed."

It didn't take rocket science to figure out what was going on with Edmund, considering the whispering around them, the guy he'd come with, and everything surrounding those things. It was also somewhat the talk of a few families, though Leo tried to stay out of those things if he could. He honestly didn't care what other people did with their lives. It did make him curious about why he'd come over to the two of them though. It wasn't like they affected him any.
Maybe he was just making small talk since they'd been off on their own in the corner. "Rather unfortunately," he responded. He had talked to Lyanna a few times about it all now, so he knew she wouldn't take offense to his words. At least he was pretty sure she wouldn't. Hopefully. That wouldn't be fun.
He had gall, Lyanna had to give him that. To walk into this room with his partner, knowing the reaction that he was going to get, that would take a lot of gall. Things to aspire to, she supposed.
"Unfortunately?" Lyanna asked, giving Leo a teasing smile. "Keep saying things like that and I'm going to think that you don't like me." That said, this whole situation was rather unfortunate and she would much prefer not to be betrothed. But teasing was fun too.
Leo's comment made Edmund's lip quirk, as did Lyanna's response. She reminded him a little bit of Evanna, which made sense, considering that they were cousins. But family did not always end up similar. He and Evanna were strikingly different, and they were siblings. But it was something perhaps that Leo was voicing that he didn't approve of the situation. "And what do you plan on doing about it?" he questioned.
They had better been planning on doing something about it. He hoped at least they wouldn't just be disliking it and taking it. He didn't know Leo, but he expected more than that out of Lyanna.

Leo tried very seriously to raise an eyebrow at Lyanna, but the faint curl to his lips gave away the fact that he was actually quite amused. "What's there to like exactly? You lecture me all the time." Okay, so it had been like once but that was more than enough fuel for a counter tease.
His gaze moved back to Edmund again, all traces of amusement gone. This was a point where he had to be careful, both in what he said and at the volume he said it. If anyone overheard... "Once I come of age, it won't be an issue anymore," he said with as casual a shrug as he could manage.
