As it was, Edison loved living in a flat with his brothers. They were in each other's space most of the time, but it was a fun time for Edison. Especially now that he had Blaine with him. Hopefully she would never mind sharing space with all of the Faraday men. At worst, maybe she'd make them actually get a house. Which probably wouldn't be too bad. After all, they had money now so it wasn't like they were stuck being in a small place.
Still, she was at school and so instead it was just Edison and Franklin. The two boys would be just fine though. There wasn't a reason he needed to worry about anything, right? He trusted everyone was going to be just fine. Which meant he was working on making dinner. He had zero idea if Franklin would be home soon or not, but it seemed nice. After all, they were grown men and would have to eat at some point. Even if Edison ate alone, he would then have food for later.
Franklin wasn't entirely convinced that three boys in one apartment wasn't too many boys, but at least they all had their own rooms, and Tesla was only there in the summer so for most of the year it was just him and Edison. Maybe they should buy a house to at least spread them out a little more. He loved his brothers, but he did not love constantly tripping over them in the somewhat small space that was their apartment. He wasn't sure if it was more or less complicated with Blaine there. On one hand, it was nice to have someone he wasn't related to around, on the other she was his brother's girlfriend and therefore he didn't really want to think about what they got up to in his room. He also didn't want to hear it, and being in an apartment could make that difficult. It wasn't something to worry about right now though, as it was just the two of them.
For the time being though, he had gone out for a bit. He liked to explore, and being that there wasn't a whole lot to do around the apartment he did so often. It was better than just lying around in his room doing nothing. Unfortunately there hadn't been a whole lot to do outside the apartment today either. Thus, he decided to head back and once he returned he found Edison making dinner. So he strolled up behind his brother and draped an arm over his shoulders. "What are you making for dinner?" he asked moderately curious. As long as it was edible and not on fire he would eat it, but he of course still wanted to know what it actually was.

Having Edison in the kitchen was always sort of a hit or miss sort of thing. He liked it, but he wasn't really good at it. After all, there were other things going on in his time and space. While he liked the idea of getting to cook, he just sort of tended to wander around or have something else happen. Mostly he was concerned with making sure that everyone ate, since he was the oldest. It was his job to make sure they were all alive. Their parents would kill him if he let his brothers die of starvation.
But with Tesla at Hogwarts, he didn't have to worry too much. Instead he just had to make dinner for himself and Franklin. Stir fry. Sound good?" It was good to know that Franklin was home. After all, with Blaine at work, he would have been by himself. And who wanted to actually eat alone?
Franklin sometimes worried about his brother when he was in the kitchen. It was always a tossup as to whether it would be good or not as his brother seemed to sometimes get a bit distracted with other things and forget he was actually cooking. That hadn’t seemed to have happened this time, as of yet, and now that Franklin was home he could make sure it didn’t for sure. As long as both of them didn’t get distracted everything would be fine and dinner wouldn’t be on fire. That was the important part, and he was pretty sure between the two of them that would be no problem.
He tossed an arm over his brother’s shoulders and asked about what was for dinner. Apparently the answer was stir fry. “Sounds great. Need any help with anything?” he asked, figuring he might as well offer. Maybe he could just set the table, but it was something. If it helped Edison keep an eye on the food then it was fine. Maybe something else needed done though, and he could help with actual cooking. He wasn’t any better at it than Edison was, but together they could pretend to be a whole adult that knew how to cook.

If there were too many cooks in the kitchen, Edison would lose his attention span and just want to wander off. So instead it would be better to focus on just cooking. "Nah. Maybe just sit around and talk. As long as I don't leave the kitchen, I'll be good." But the second he left the kitchen, he would forget everything he needed to remember and then dinner would be ruined. It'd happened before and was one of the reasons Edison was all for eating out when all three of the Faraday brothers were in the house.
Especially if Blaine was added into the picture as well. Because once she was there, his mind wandered even more then previously. "So how's work?"
Franklin knew his brother didn’t have much of an attention span, so if he could help keep it on the things that mattered then he was willing to help. That apparently wasn’t needed today so he was told to just sit around and talk a bit instead. “I’ll make sure you don’t leave the kitchen then.” He said with a slight smile. He could manage that much at least. He took a seat at the table and wondered if his brother had any ideas on what to even talk about. It wasn’t as if they didn’t know basically everything about one another at this point.
He was asked how work was and he shrugged. “Work is the same as it always is I suppose. Drew up a few new designs, threw out at least twenty more. Standard design process. That’s before reviews too, so I’m sure at least another thirty will end up in the trash before anyone even thinks about making anything.” He stated simply. The design process was frustrating and kind of sucked, but he enjoyed it once it got past the initial rejections. "How's work for you?" he asked, though he knew he wouldn't be able to have any real details due to the nature of his brother's job.

"Good. Thanks." As much as Edison loved and adored cooking, he just liked wandering around. There were so many other things that could happen. There were people outside, and he was just fine with dealing with them. But if he could walk off, he completely would. His brain just wandered off from time to time. It was part of why he had loved being a curse breaker. There was always something different going on.
But he bobbed his head up and down. At no point had he ever thought of having a job like his brother's, but that was fine. It was sort of interesting to see where Franklin had ended up. "Well, people like the classics. You know Tesla still uses an older broom." Even when he'd tried telling their brother they could afford a newer broom, Tesla seemed stuck on using their old one. "Oh it's pretty good. I'm still not used to all of the secrets and not being able to tell people stuff. But at least Blaine works there."
Unspeakable was not a good fit for him, but Edison wasn't really sure where else he'd go.
Franklin’s job was to keep his brother in the kitchen, so he was going to do his best to make sure the older man did not just start wandering off and forgetting about dinner again. They had burned enough food in this house, and he wasn’t really feeling take-out tonight so he would prefer they didn’t have to scrap what Edison was making again. “Of course,” he said with a slight smile in response to the thanks. He wasn’t sure how both of his brothers ended up so easily distracted while he wasn’t, but it was fine they couldn’t all be super alike after all. Sure, he did get distracted sometimes, but not quite to the extent that Edison or Tesla managed, so he was designated as the one for keeping everyone on task at times, and he was okay with that.
His brother argued that people liked the classics and pointed out Tesla still used an older broom, and he shrugged in response. “People also like new things, as evidence by the fact that many wealthier families buy the newest and most expensive brooms as soon as they’re out because they seem to sometimes assume more expensive is better,” he stated idly. “Maybe I should try taking a classic broom and updating the speeds and cushioning or something,” he said mostly talking to himself. That was an idea certainly. He’d bring it up when he went to work next. He asked about his brother’s job and then remembered that he couldn’t actually be told much. “Is it nice working with Blaine? I can definitely imagine the secrets bit being difficult for you,” he said with a slight laugh.

Sometimes Edison forgot that his brother was a professional. He didn't know how he kept forgetting the fact that Franklin was a professional. Maybe it was because he just kept thinking of Tesla? Tesla was still a small child compared to the rest of the family. "You do know how people like things that are retro." Edison loved it, but he did have newer brooms. And having a younger brother who was obsessed with Quidditch, they had newer stuff as well.
"It's awesome. I feel a lot better having her with me. I don't have to stress out about the stuff I learn at work, because she learns it too. So it's not like...a big secret that will tear us apart." Instead both of them were going to learn everything at the same time. It just made him feel a whole lot better.
The comment about retro made Franklin shrug. “I don’t think there are really any really popular brooms out there that are old enough to be brought back as retro yet, but maybe. I’ll look into it,” he stated simply. Something to research later. He’d deal with that at the very least after dinner. After all, he had a job to do for the moment, and that was keeping his brother in the kitchen. “You’re still paying attention to dinner right?” he asked, somewhat teasing with a slight smirk. Hopefully their conversation hadn’t distracted the eldest too bad. If it had, well then maybe dinner was still savable at this point? It hadn’t been that long yet, he thought things would probably be fine.
“I guess couples who don’t both work there are good at keeping secrets, and the other doesn’t mind. Which, if it’s work secrets I don’t think it would be that harmful in a relationship,” he said with a shrug. Couldn’t give away everything in a company, not even to your wife or husband. As after all secrets were sometimes hard to keep and they might tell their friends who would tell other people. Then things would get out of hand and cause problems.

"I mean, there are some really old ones. And you know nostalgia sells well." People wanted to remember things from their youth. Although that would mean a slower broom, so the professionals wouldn't use it. But collectors and the like would happily buy it. There was always a market for weird things like that. "Naturally I am!" Actually, he had not been. But he didn't smell anything burning, so he wasn't going to worry about it.
But as he listened to Franklin talk, he did busy himself with cooking again. It was probably a good thing his brother had said something. Too much longer and dinner would have burned to a crisp. "I know I'd mess up, because I want to be honest with her about everything." While he understood that couples wouldn't know everything about each other, he still wanted to know most things. And having a job that meant they had to keep secrets would just end up driving Edison insane.
However, dinner was finally ready. "At long last! It's time to eat!" There had been nothing burning and no fires. For once, everything had gone perfectly smooth.
Franklin raised an eyebrow at his brother. “No offense bro, but I’m pretty sure I would know better than you about what sells in the broomstick industry,” he pointed out simply. He was fairly certain nostalgia didn’t apply to the vast majority of brooms simply because they hadn’t gotten popular enough or had too many issues to really be worth what they cost. Nobody wanted to buy a slow or uncomfortable broom for the sake of nostalgia. Nostalgia was really only applicable to brooms that had been good at the time, so there were limited choices on what to update without just making them a new version. After all there were new versions of Cleansweeps and Nimbus and Firebolts so just updating those was sort of already taken care of every few years. He asked about paying attention to dinner and laughed a bit at the response. “Somehow I’m not sure I believe you,” he teased with a vague smirk.
Hearing Edison talk, he really wasn’t sure unspeakable was the right job for him if his fiancé wasn’t involved. That could have been very messy if she wasn’t also in the same field. “I’m kind of questioning how you got that job when you’re terrible with secrets,” he said with a slight laugh. Then it was time to eat, and that was good because he was definitely hungry now. It also didn’t look like it was burnt so that meant he had succeeded in keeping his brother focused and on task.

It was true that Edison didn't fly much. Or deal with brooms at all. Honestly, both of his brothers seemed to enjoy Quidditch or just broomsticks. But Edison? He was okay watching that. He just didn't see the point in going up into the air for all of that nonsense. Instead he'd rather stay on the ground and do stuff. "That's fair and valid." Sure, those were almost synomins, but it worked. He'd trust his younger brother on what sold in his career path. "Why not? You should always believe me!" Or most of the time. If he knew what he was talking about. Which was.....okay fine. Franklin might have a point.
"I'm good with them! I haven't told you a thing!" He pointed a spatula at his brother very evily. Except they'd be eating soon and so he'd have to put down his trusted spatula. "It helps that Blaine works there. She's the one I can't keep stuff from." At least it meant he'd never cheat or anything like that. He was fully committed to team Orion-Faraday. But he more or less thrust a plate of food at his brother.
Franklin pointed out that he would know more, and apparently his brother accepted that. It was good that he did though as it seemed like a silly thing to argue about. Especially seeing as Franklin literally worked in the industry and Edison didn’t really seem to have a whole lot of interest in it outside what Franklin told him about work. He then scoffed when he was apparently always supposed to believe his brother. “Because you’re infamous for not paying attention then pretending you were the whole time,” he said with a slight smirk. Edison and Tesla were both infamous for it really. How was he the only one with some semblance of an attention span in the family?
He laughed when Edison said he hadn’t told him any secrets. “Not yet, you haven’t spent an evening drinking around me since getting the job though,” he teased with a grin. He didn’t actually care about the secrets if he was being honest, but he sincerely doubted Edison would be able to resist blabbing if he was drunk. Apparently Blaine was the one he really couldn’t keep secrets from, but since she worked there it wasn’t a big deal he supposed. “How do you manage to keep her birthday and Christmas gifts from her? Or do you just give them to her as soon as you buy them?” he asked with a laugh.
