i saw a face in the sand.
When Bex was nervous, she came out to the pitch. When she was sad, she came out to the pitch. When she was distressed, she came out to the pitch. The flying had been her form of therapy for as long as she could remember, and that would hardly change now that she had her future looming so near. She had recently decided that the path of an Auror was the one for her, but it was certainly not an easy one. She would have to overcome many hurdles and vigorous training before she even came close to doing what she wanted to.
Naturally, she'd sought the refuge of the pitch today, a windy day in early February. It was mid-afternoon, and a Saturday, so most people were huddled over homework inside. That was, except for Bex. And, it seemed, the other inhabitant of the pitch. As she entered it, she noted a figure off to her left, down the field. Frowning a bit at not quite being alone, Bex, nonetheless waved a greeting, before mounting her broom and hovering upwards at a lazy, languid pace.

If Tesla would be anything in life, he would be a Quidditch player. It did help with the fact that right now he obsessed about Quidditch. Over summer, he went to Quidditch camp. Over the school year, he was the captain of the Quidditch team. He loved and adored everything about the sport. It made him feel better then he could ever explain to a normal human being. He'd finally gotten one of the professors to agree to help him become an animagus, and now it seemed like other things were happening.
So he went to the pitch, because there wasn't anything else he should do. The pitch wasn't empty, but at least he was friends with the person there. He couldn't help but grin at Rebekah. "Cygnussssss!" And he threw his leg over his broom and kicked off. It took moments for him to reach her in the air. "How are you? How have you been feeling?" They were both captains and prefects, if he didn't know her then he'd be bad at both of those. Besides, they were almost best friends.

Bex heard a familiar voice behind her as she continued her lazy hovering. She hadn't at first recognized the figure that was alongside her in the pitch, but, as soon as the person spoke, she instantly smiled. The boy was none other than Tesla Faraday - a fellow captain, prefect, and someone that Iris had seemed to speak of fondly during their sleepless adventure down to the kitchens.
She turned her broom to face the approaching boy, her face all smiles and her eyes bright with excitement. "Faraday!" She said happily, beaming at him. "I'm....kind of wonderful actually. Especially now that you're here." She said, building up his ego for fun, she liked joking with people and he always seemed receptive to good humor. "How about you? How are you?"

Tesla beamed at Bex as if she was the best person in the world. Because honestly? At that moment she was. Sure, he could focus on his missing girlfriend or the fact that he hadn't talked to his best friend in awhile. But that didn't sound like something he wanted to do. Instead he wanted to hang out with this person and become even closer friends. Besides, he was pretty sure she was bffs with his bff Iris. Which meant they also had to become bffs and then all three of them could hang out and go on adventures.
"You're the best." Because he wasn't sure if he was really the reason her day picked up, but he didn't care that much. He was just happy to hang out with her. Basically he wanted her to love him as a friend. "I am excellent! I'm always glad to spend time with a friend." Because she was his friend. She would love him and they'd live happily ever after. "I don't want you or Iris to graduate. Can't you guys just fail?"

She didn't know Tesla super well - only from Quidditch and such. But had such a light in him, such a life force, that he was someone that Bex felt instantly drawn to. She loved vibrant, willful people. People with substance. Perhaps that was why she'd be so initially drawn to Iris in the first place - the most colorful person she knew. She envied that vibrancy, and only hoped she herself also exuded some of it.
The boy seemed equally as excited to see her, and she could feel her own grin smiling filling her face. She hadn't so down lately, not after spending that night with Iris, raiding the kitchen. She'd actually been sleeping through the night since then. "And I'm glad to visit with you!" She said, her words coming out loud and rushed, fueled by emotion and good humor. "You're totally coming to visit us, right? I mean, I hope Iris will still even wanna hang out with me after graduation..." She said, her frown showing for the first time. She still sort of needed to ask Iris out. Maybe she'd save that for Valentine's Day?

Honestly, what was Tesla going to do when his friends graduated from Hogwarts? Life was just going to be too weird. He wanted to complain and put his foot down. But he was pretty sure there was no way he could drag Iris back to Hogwarts. It would be a lot better if there was a way to make her stay, but no matter what he couldn't do anything that could possibly hurt her. She was an amazing person.
"Iris is my best friend in the whole wide world. Naturally I'll keep seeing you." Because Bex and Iris were obviously in love and he didn't want to do anything that could cause her trouble. "You know Iris is going to keep hanging out with you." Iris was and so would he. They were all friends forever.

Bex blushed a little at his assumption that Iris would want to continue to hang out with her after all this was said and done. Sure, the Ravenclaw seemed quite fond of her - given her gestures and such. But she had seen iris with others, and she seemed equally affectionate to so many others - why should she feel that she was getting any sort of special treatment at all? it was that very sort of thinking that tended to get her into sticky situations.
Shaking her head as if to rid it completely of the negative thoughts, Bex returned her 100 watt smile to her younger friend. "I know I'm gonna miss this. I love Quidditch. I thought of making my career out of it for a bit, you know. But now I'm leaning more towards Auror." She explained. It just seemed like a more stable job, really.
