Flopping on her best friend's bed took zero hesitation from the young blond. "I asked Damien out." She wasn't sure why she was in a state of disbelief over it. They'd been having monogamous sex for awhile now. But she'd been surprised by her own actions.
She pulled her knees to her chest as she looked at her best friend's face. There had to be a way things woukd be okay. Actually, she didn't know why she was stressed out. He'd said yes. And yet something wasn't settled in her gut.
While Arkham flopping down on her bed wasn't all that shocking, Meredith did find herself quite shocked by the words that left the girl's lips next. There was a pull in her gut as she processed them, keeping her eyes trained on her friend as she did. "That's great?" she said, though it came out hesitantly. She knew a little of what was going on, but she hadn't asked for any sort of details. Her lingering feelings weren't allowing that of her. But she would do what she could to be supportive, even when it made her insides all twisted up.

Arkham had previously thought that Meredith would be the love of her life and that they'd last forever. As much as she adored Damien, and she really did adore him, part of her still felt a pang about the whole Meredith situation. "He said yes. I don't know why." Sure, she was completely thrilled about it. He was the first person she'd actually dated since she had Meredith had been a thing. But she wasn't sure why he'd said yes to her. Shouldn't he be with someone better then her? She could pretend she had all of the self confidence in the world, but the truth was Arkham felt very small most of the time.
"How have you been?" Maybe Meredith would be able to distract her in a nonsexual way. Ark couldn't ruin a relationship again.
Meredith had to tread carefully here. She couldn't let Arkham know how many of her feelings were still lingering behind. She couldn't accidentally be the cause of any discord in this new thing that made her friend happy. "I'm sure he said yes because you're so wonderful." It was something she'd have said with feelings or not because her best friend was really wonderful. There were plenty of things about Arkham that Meredith envied.
"We're not talking about me," she diverted. "You've just had something good happen. Tell me about the boy instead." Mostly she just didn't want to talk about herself, though she never really did.

Arkham really didn't think she should be telling Meredith that a good part of why Arkham had started dealing with Damien was the fact that she found him attractive. And saying the truth seemed weird. They'd started their relationship with just being a fling. It worked out well for them, sure. But now she didn't want to make things too weird. "I don't know about that." She was wonderful, sure. But she wasn't sure if that was a reason for a committed relationship. "I guess I did dress up as a cheerleader for him." After all, he tried so hard on the Quidditch team. She was proud of him.
"Are you sure? I really don't mind talking about you." Meredith was her best friend. She didn't want to make their friendship awkward or strained right now. "He's really amazing. We do rounds together and he's just...easy to be with."
Every time Meredith was around Arkham, it struck her just how willing she was to stop the world for the other girl. It made her wonder why she'd let things slip through her fingers when she'd been at her happiest. It made her pine for another time, something that seemed like a lifetime away now and that she could never have back. "If it wasn't because you're wonderful, he might need to reassess himself a bit," she said with a shrug. Sure there were other reasons to date someone, but liking their personality was useful.
"I really, really don't want to talk about me," she assured her friend. She didn't trust herself to. Lying hadn't ever been a strong trait of hers. "I'm glad that you feel that way about it. That's good."
