Clearly, Klint needed to work on his listening skills. He'd totally missed the pronoun the Romeo had used. He blushed a little, realizing his mistake, hoping he hadn't offended Romeo. "Ugh, my bad. I'm apparently the worst listener ever. Or, that's what Ali tells me, anyhow." He admitted, chuckling a bit. His mind was always going in so many different directions, sometimes it was hard for him to focus.
"Well, I'll bet you're glad you did all that practice now. I mean, looking at all of this excitement you get to interact with on a daily basis." He said sarcastically, looking around at the dead ward around them. Truthfully, it was more often busy than not, it just happened to be in a bit of a slow spell currently. "And, um, the muggle world, though. The one thing I really miss about it is the video games. Say what you want, but those things are awesome."
"I try to make friends, Romeo. I do! But people are so rude sometimes." He commented, seemingly genuinely frustrated. More often than not, people walked around with chips on the shoulders, often for no concrete reason. "I'm sorry, you just didn't seem like the type to bake. But now that you've told me that, you have to make me something." He said, being a little demanding but still smiling to let Romeo know he was joking.
The explanation was so outlandish and unexpected, but also so completely Romeo. Klint had to laugh a little at it. "Wait, you had a crush on her too? She was pretty..." He agreed, remembering the healer in question. "I just wasn't good at anything else. I didn't really know if I'd be good at anything until I hit those healing classes. I kind of just hoped I'd figure something out. Worst case, I always thought about going back to the muggle world." He admitted. He'd grown up in that world, after all. He missed it.
"Well, then, you're leading a more companion-driven life than me." He admitted, shaking his head. He kind of lived a solitary existence. Not that Klint wasn't a warm, genuine, and welcoming person. He just hadn't seemed to click with anyone on a one-on-one level yet. "And bake as in, like, cakes and stuff?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. Romeo hardly struck him as a homemaker.
Klinton didn't really find himself wondering what his housemates had gotten themselves up to after they graduated - he didn't really care. Quite frankly, his own absent mind could barely keep track of itself most of the time. "Well, it sounds like they're having fun, at least. Did you ever see yourself doing anything but healing?" He asked, curious. He had never had much aptitude for anything else, so it had kind of been a no-brainer.
He nodded about the sister thing, sighing a little. "My sister has to be the worst, though. She doesn't tell me anything. Like I'd want to hear about her issues anyhow." He admitted. As caring as he was for his sister, she tended to carry a lot of baggage with her. "And, um, I dunno. More fun? More exciting? More...lively...?" He offered, pointing around to the dead night shift that surrounded them.

His mind had turned into a completely empty slate. He couldn't think of one single funny quip or interesting story. He took a deep breath, attempting to find some words in the abyss of his brain, but he came up empty for a solid minute or so more. Finally, he spoke again.
"Well, um, there was the guy who was convinced that he was a Hippogriff. Something off in his brain. Kept cawing. It was funny until he thought he could fly. We, um, had to keep his window locked after that." After he finished, he realized how dark the story actually was. Well, that wasn't the note of humor he had hoped for.
He was relieved when she accepted his invitation, and he let out a long sigh. "Great. I'll show you around. You'd better feel honored, though, because this is an exclusive, one-of-a-kind sort of tour." He teased, some of his confidence coming back as he moved towards the doorway, waving her along with him.

Klint nodded as Romeo seemed to correctly identify the Slytherin that he had in mind. "Yeah, that sounds right. I don't know what Ali saw in him. I mean, he seems nice enough, I guess. Isn't he like....in a band now? Maybe if I knew more about her life Ali would actually talk to me more. Whatever." He said, shrugging. He could figure out how to be a bigger part of Ali's life later. Right now, he needed to focus on his work and healing himself up. That was the important goal.
He smirked a little as Romeo began to heal his arm, as he threatened to parade around if Romeo did a bad job at it. Honestly, it was nice not to talk to someone who was either half out of their mind or too far gone to care for once. "Tell me you have some sort of better life outside of this place. Just so I know it's possible." He said, off-topic but still a worry of his. He needed to work on his personal life.

Now that the man actually had an invitation to tell a story - something which he was basically always dying to do, he liked chatting - he found his mind growing quite blank. The woman made him nervous. Really, he tended to be slightly awkward in any number of social situations. However, it was like her awkwardness was feeding his and....it was a lot. Swallowing nervously, Klint nodded as she invited the story, trying to think of one. "Oh, um, give me a second. I have to ch-choose the right one." He said. So smooth.
He then proceeded to make his thoughts on her appearance painfully obvious as he complimented her looks. As he tried to scale it back, he found himself growing even more flustered. He was blushing now, and decided training his eyes on the floor was the safest option. As she stammered, clearly uncomfortable, he silently cursed himself. Trying to diffuse the awkward tension, he looked back up, trying to change the subject. "Oh. Hey. Has anyone given you the official tour yet?" He asked, desperate to be moving.

The idea that Romeo was glad his sister was not very much like him surprised Klint. He liked Romeo - from what he knew of the man, he found him to be trustworthy and a decent person, and certainly a very interesting person to be around. The surface level stuff, the piercings, the dark hair - that mattered little to Klint. He'd never been one to judge based on appearances. He was much more interested in what lay underneath the surface of a person's outer shell.
He nodded a little as Romeo mused that one's persona may also be influenced by who people chose to hang out with. "That's true. Though, my twin, Ali. I don't think she hangs out with very many people. She'd a little difficult to get along with. Even in school, she only hung out with a few people. I remember this other crazy Slytherin Muggleborn, he was always climbing trees for some reason. And that was the person Ali chose to befriend. I really don't understand her..." He said, shaking her head. His twin made such questionable choices, honestly.
Klint chuckled a little at Romeo's apparent love for dark, weird things. This wasn't news to him, being a twin with a snake had let him see all the odd ins and outs Slytherins had an affinity for. "I'll keep that in mind. Wouldn't want you getting lonely either, of course." He said, not that the other man seemed too bothered by it at all. He settled into a chair as Romeo began healing, scrunching his nose a little. Not because it hurt, not really. More at the sarcastic comment. "Hey, if you do a bad job, I'll tell everyone it was you. It's your name riding on this." He joked.

Klint watched the exchange between the two, wordlessly. He was still knelt down, closer to the child's level than his fellow healer's, but it didn't really bother him. He liked kids - he'd considered working in Pediatrics when he'd first began at St. Mungos. However, in the end, the idea of building a long-term relationship with his patients, of being a constant in their lives, day after day - that had really piqued his interest.
He finally straightened as the little girl began to explain her problem to the other healer. He probably should have just left them alone at this point, the other healer obviously knew the area much better than he. But, he found himself wanting to make sure that the little girl got taken care of, properly. Not that he doubted the healer's skills. He was simply invested, it was in his nature to become so.
The time had clearly come for him to enter the conversation again, though, as the blonde peered at him expectantly. He cleared his throat awkwardly, a way to fill the silence before he actually spoke. "My name is Klint Danvers. I work up in the long-term ward. I was just passing through..." He explained.

one time to figure it out.
He was glad the other man seemed to see his way of thinking, now at least. "I mean, can you imagine if we all always wanted the same things out of life? I have a twin sister, and even she and I are vastly different - and we were raised in the same environment, with the same parents, and share more than our share of genes. It really makes you wonder what truly forms a person, doesn't it?" He asked, as he had so many times before. It dumbfounded him how vastly different he and Ali were....aside from their dark eyes and hair, he found few commonalities between them. Sometimes that scared him - he worried a lot about her.
The idea of a busy shift was not something that Klint was opposed to either. He liked keeping busy - running around, doing work, even when you were pulled in about ten different directions - that was still way more fun than sitting there, twiddling your thumbs. "Eh, I'd take a crazy night over a slow one any day of the week. Makes things so much more exciting. Plus, this place.....it can get kind of creepy at night, when it's too quiet." He admitted, not entirely joking.
When Romeo pointed out some more benefits of the patients hurting them, rather than others, he nodded. He didn't mind being in the line of fire from these people, that wasn't what bothered him - he could take it. What hurt more than the physical pain was seeing these people who had made great leaps and bounds revert to their former inadequacy. "Yeah...I mean, at least we can handle it. I'd rather not have to heal a random person, than myself. Or, try to heal myself I guess." He said, since he appeared to be unable to do so now, mostly because of the extent of harm on his arm, and the awkward angle he'd have to try and cast at.
He smirked when Romeo rolled his eyes - it was the very kind of reaction he'd been trying to illicit. But, he still held out his arm just as he had been told. "You'd better do a top notch job, or I'm not telling the other healers to come to you....." He warned, though he still smirked.

we barely make it.
He was good with kids. So much so, it was kind of a shame he didn't have any of his own by now. A few times, he toyed with the idea of adoption, seeing as he had a stable job now and had the financial capabilities to provide for a little one. However, more than anything, Klint longed to meet a girl, fall in love, get married and have a child with her. So, he held out for romance. Perhaps it was a fool's notion to even wonder if love truly seemed to exist anymore - Ali seemed to think it a waste of time - but still, even after all he'd been through, he held onto hope.
He'd knelt beside the child now, intending to try and help. That seemed to be the only thing he was good at, helping others. The child, however, seemed resistant to him, and would not reply. Suddenly, he heard a rather forceful, but gentle, voice ring out behind him. Looking over his shoulder, he immediately recognized the face of a woman he knew to be a healer in the ward. Calmly, he gestured at the child. "She looked upset and lost." He explained. "I was trying to help..."

but i won’t fall.
His smile turned to an expression of complete amusement as she asked her question, then backtracked, trying to amend it. He had not thought her odd for asking for stories, given his ward, and he had not thought it against any sort of confidentiality. He could easily choose to omit or edit details. However, she was clearly trying to smooth the situation over, which just widened his smile. “Oh, sure. Tons. I could bore you all day with them, if you’d have it.” He joked, his own awkward energy coming into play now.
He listened intently to her, his gaze unwavering, his attention un-diverted. “Oh. I bet they’re always excited to have such a pretty healer help them though.” He then realized what he’d just said and balked, doing his own backtracking now. “I mean. Competent healer. You seem like you really know your stuff. Not that you’re not pretty it’s just I’m sure that’s not the only thing people….um. Just, I’m sure you do a great job at your work.” He finished lamely, ducking his own head. Wow. That had not been smooth at all.

guided by a beating heart.
The story she told him was hardly a unique one, unfortunately. How many lives had he watched pass in the ward, to be left behind by such young ones? He knew youth made the grief a bit easier, but was that a blessing or a curse? Children didn’t know what was happening, oftentimes, and they didn’t even get to choose how they dealt with the situation. He was the sort of person who liked to try and make sense of things, even from a young age.
“I guess it was not as painful as it could have been.” He agreed. He would have reached a kind, comforting hand to her shoulder after that comment normally – he was a very touchy, feely person. However, at her previous reaction, he decided a ‘hands-off’ policy was probably best. He settled for his kindest smile, hoping it would convey his understanding to her.
When he said he wouldn’t have teased her, there wasn’t an ounce of malice in his voice or ill-will. He had always been an extremely empathetic, understanding person. His ability to read people was something he prided himself on. He had never, even in his youth, been one to tease or mock others. He’d never needed to be that person.
He didn’t know what he’d been expecting the next phrase out of her mouth to be, but an invitation to tea was hardly the direction he thought it would go. However, he beamed at her, clearly excited by the idea. “I’d love to! Let me just pay for this present for my sister first.” He said, pacing over to counter and making the transaction. Within a few moments, he returned to her side. “Okay, let’s go. I’m dying for some caffeine.” He admitted, excited at the prospect of conversation.

one time to figure it out.
Romeo hardly seemed convinced of Klint’s words, which mostly just made him chuckle. He understood more than anyone that it took a special kind of person to work in the long-term ward, and he was fine being that sort of person who chose to do just that. He had gone a little against the grain his whole life – it only seemed fitting to continue that now. “Eh, it’s not for everyone, I know that. I think it’d be boring if everyone wanted to do the exact same thing anyhow.” He said, clearly unoffended by the other man’s less than convinced tone.
“Yeah, you’ve most definitely jinxed it now. But, perhaps you’ll just have a crazy night tomorrow on behalf of today.” He joked, as if luck worked out that way. He was definitely done trying to bandage up his own arm at that point, it just sort of rested by his side as he continued to talk to Romeo. “I don’t like to see them….regress….but I suppose it’s better they do it in here than out there.” He admitted, his gaze averting downwards. He so wanted to help every resident in the ward but, for some of them, it simply wasn’t doable.
His gaze returned to Romeo’s face as the other man convinced him that he really had nothing better to do, and a smile returned to his own face. “Okay. Help is definitely appreciated, then. I’m just honored to have the help of a Head Healer.” He joked. He was genuinely glad that Romeo would help him though. Not that he couldn’t do it himself, it was just harder on your own body at times.

we barely make it.
Klint had never wanted to be anything other than a healer. His sister had sought out a life of fighting, of secrets, of action. He’d always been just as happy to be there, even if it was on the sidelines. He liked to help people, it made him feel like he had a purpose in the world. He’d chosen to work in the long-term ward specifically so he could foster long-lasting relationships and, so far, it had been a great fit for him.
When he’d been choosing his career path, the only real dilemma had been choosing a ward. He’d narrowed it down to two: Pediatrics or Long-term care. In the end, he’d obviously chosen the latter. Still, sometimes, when it was slow or he was on a break, he’d sometimes go visit the Pediatrics ward, seeing what he was missing, or just saying hello to the kids.
It was his afternoon break now and, instead of heading out to grab a bite to eat as many of the other healers did, he decided to head up to the Pediatrics ward. He had just landed on the appropriate level and exited the elevator when he saw a kid who looked like she was about to burst into tears. Hurrying over, he knelt beside her. “Hey, hey. It’s okay. I’m Klint. What do you need help with?” He asked kindly, before scanning the hallway for another healer who may actually know what to do with the kid.
