While Noel had enjoyed living with the Queens, part of him was worried that any day they would get tired of him. It was possible that Jasmine might get bored of him and kick him out. Or something like that. He was trying to do everything to make sure that she and her husband had nothing negative to say about him. He'd actually cooked dinner while the parents were out with the kids. He wasn't sure if he was supposed or if they had simply forgotten he existed. It was possible.
But the mail for Hogwarts had appeared and now he was going to be a prefect? The paused as he tenderly touched the badge. This was one of the most amazing things he'd ever seen. How was he allowed to have this kind of power? Placing it on the kitchen counter, he paused in what he was actually doing. He really had no idea what he was supposed to do or anything else like that. He might be bothering someone and he didn't think he could take having to move away.
He could make sure that his new family was happy, or at least he'd do everything in his power to make them happy.
Though it had been a little bit strange at first to have a teenage boy around to go along with the teenage girl, Jasmine couldn't help but feel that taking Noel from his abusive mother had been the best option. The woman hadn't argued against it, so it didn't really matter anyway. It was the best option for everyone. Plus it was always good to have extra eyes around to keep an eye on the two small humans that were starting to learn how to walk now. And sometimes she felt like it was almost like having Liam back again. The thought of her little brother still made her sad, but it didn't make her want to destroy the house again, so she'd take that as a small victory. Maybe one day she'd be able to think of him without wanting to cry too.
As it was, she'd ducked out a bit early on the family outing, no longer feeling like being out, but not wanting to cut the twins' day short because she was difficult and broken. Icarus hadn't seemed to mind letting her leave. He was too good to her really. She didn't deserve someone so loyal. She was too much of a mess.
Walking inside the house, she stopped and leaned back on the front door, running a head through her hair. She needed to stay composed. It was summer so the teenagers were out of school, and that meant at least one of them was probably around. Sighing, she pushed herself up after a moment and headed through the house to the kitchen. She could smell something from inside the room and wanted to investigate further. "What're you making, Noel?" she asked as she spotted the boy. "It smells lovely."
She was so distracted by the smells that she didn't notice the letter he had at first. Had the school letters already gone out? She looked at him, noting that he was gently touching something. "What's that?"

Before moving in with the Queens, Noel had lived with the Kennedys and a fair amount of other adults. Each family was different from the last and for the most part, he wasn't overly concerned. Out of all of the houses he'd previously live in, this was honestly one of the best. He liked being around Jasmine and the kids. It was sort of surprising to suddenly be around one of his house and year mates. But it wasn't like the other teenager was overly hard to deal with or anything else like that.
What if she didn't get a prefect badge? Would it become weird in the house? But suddenly Jasmine was home and that was just fine with him. She was calming and he got along with her. Jasmine was the reason his life was as good as it was. "I thought I'd make dinner. It's beef stroganoff." Which was one of his favorite things to make. He'd cooked dinner for himself plenty of times.
"I made prefect?" He wasn't sure why that was a question to Jasmine.
"You're a blessing. Have I told you that lately?" she asked him with a smile. It had been a bit strange at first, having him around the house, but he'd needed to get out of his situation and she'd gotten his mother to comply with that. She hadn't wanted to seem like she was taking advantage of his kindness in helping out though, so she'd initially tried to stop him and just let him be a teenager, but it seemed to help so she didn't mind as much now. She just made sure to give ample praise when the occasions arose.
"Prefect?" She took a moment to process that. "Oh, that's so exciting!" She crossed the rest of the room to him so that she could see the badge herself. "Well done." She hadn't been a prefect herself, being too much of a party girl in her school years, but she knew what a big deal it could be to people.
