So last year had changed a lot of stuff in his world. As it was, most of it was for the better. Pike's sister had him mostly medicated and he felt almost decent. But he'd gotten closer with a friend. Probably the worst part of it was Lottie dumping him. Something about him having a friend made her upset. He hadn't fully been able to figure it out but he also figured he shouldn't worry about it too much. Maybe the medications were helping him out, but he wasn't fully sure.
He spent more nights in Theodore's bed then he spent in his own, but so far the Ravenclaw hadn't said anything negative about it. Pushing himself onto the ground, he figured he'd just start flipping through his textbook until Theo joined him. They were supposed to study together, but he wasn't going to worry about it. He trusted the other male. It wasn't like the Ravenclaw would stand him up or do anything worse to him.
Pike was weird, but so was Théodore. It was a comforting sort of existence, the two of them co-existing with their quirks, no questions asked. They had been spending more time together. He was okay with that.
Today, they were studying together. He didn't usually study with people besides Arin and Finnick, but Pike was a nice exception, he thought. He made it to the lawns, found Pike, and sat on the ground near him without a word before pulling out his own books. Having a friend wasn't so bad. Annoying people had turned him off the idea of trying. Really, people in general had discouraged him from trying.

It was nice that no one else tried to talk to Pike. For the most part, people avoided him. Sure, some people had talked to him back when he was dating Lottie. But they stopped as soon as they broke up. He was just fine with it though. It worked out well for him. Why would he actually stress out over being social? Now he didn't have to deal with anyone asking questions or wanting to talk to him. He could just sit back and do nothing.
"Which class do you want to start with?" There were a whole slew of classes they needed to study, but Pike didn't care that much. Either way, they needed to study for OWLs and that was just going to be sort of gross.
"History," Théodore said confidently. It was one of his best subjects, and he wanted to start their study session on a good note. "Unless you'd prefer something else." He didn't usually have to ask people what they would prefer. He didn't usually care to ask people either, but here he was, asking Pike.

Pike shrugged. He tended to be pretty lax with what he studied. "History works." He struggled with names and dates, but it wasn't like he needed to be too concerned, right? Théodore wasn't going to suddenly decide to hate him because he mixed up two long dead wizards or something else like that. Or at least, that's what Pike assumed, anyway.
Théodore got his history notes and textbook and started looking over the words before looking up at Pike with a look of confusion. "Are we supposed to...talk about it, or something? I'm not really...sure...what you were expecting," he admitted quietly. Were they supposed to help each other study or just study together, near one another but separate?

Pike wasn't fully sure about studying with someone else. He knew a lot of people did it and he wanted to at least give it a shot. But he shrugged while he looked at his friend. "We can. Or we can study silently together. Part of it is like...accountability or something?" After all, if he stopped studying, Theo would know. Pike was fine with studying near each other but separate.
Théodore exhaled slowly, relieved by Pike's words. "Good." Without hesitation, he looked down at his belongings and fished around for whatever he was going to start studying first. As long as Pike stayed quiet, studying shouldn't have been so difficult. Maybe it would breeze by.

Honestly Pike felt better having Theo near him. There was something about the situation that just made him ease up a little bit. He suddenly wasn't worried about things he couldn't control. Instead he felt more like he could do things. Like maybe he was going to be okay. It was like everything they did. Both boys silently did their own thing but together. And flipping through his text book, Pike honestly felt like he was learning more...
After some time had passed and Théodore had accomplished quite a bit of studying, he looked up to see how Pike was faring. In the moment, Théodore was unsure of what to say; really, he rarely spoke as it was, but there was something about where he was and with whom that made him think saying something was necessary.
Instead, he chewed on his lower lip and looked back down at his stuff. He could write essays and do his homework without any problems, but people were a sore subject. They were most terrible and unreliable, and Théodore found them obnoxious. Pike was none of those things, and so it wasn't unusual that he would call the Slytherin a friend. Finnick was also his friend, although Finn usually spent more time with Arin. Not that Théodore minded an awful lot.
"How's...the studying?" he finally offered without looking up.
