The idea of having a pet owl was still kind of weird to Sebastian, even though he'd been using owls for mail for many years now. It was definitely not something he'd ever thought about growing up. Owls were wild animals, not pets. Except to wizards apparently. "My mum was too sick to really add the stress of taking care of a pet and a kid. The kid was enough." Not that he'd really been a handful. He'd been a decent child, but raising and caring for anything was a lot.
Aurelia frowned a little bit, and nodded. "Yeah, that's understandable." Dealing with children seemed difficult enough, let alone if you added being sick, and then if you added another living creature on top of that... "I just don't think my parents could be bothered, really." They hardly seemed to be bothered dealing with their children, let alone adding animals to the mix. She shrugged.
It wasn't often that Sebastian thought about his mother these days, at least not in a context that made him sad. It had been so many years that the pain had sort of dulled down to an occasional ache. He couldn't let it upset him now. "At least we're adults now and can make our own choice whether or not we want a pet?" he suggested trying to lift the mood again. It was Christmas. They shouldn't be talking about sad things. They should be celebrating and having fun.
