As class had ended, Rosalie had invited Edgar to come and study with her. Not that she had given him much of a chance to answer before she'd headed off in the direction of the library anyway, he would either follow or he wouldn't. But either way, he had joined her in the library for a little while, as she frustratingly made her way through some potions assignment.
But the studying had happened, the assignment mostly finished, and the prospect of dinner had brought the two of them out of the library, and heading through the castle towards the great hall. "You're going home for Christmas, I presume?"
Edgar Halifax was a little over being tossed around like Rosalie was actually any better than him, presuming he'd want to go to the library and that he was done there. So what if he'd never gotten any work out to do--it was the principle of the matter, and Rosalie clearly had no good principles surrounding how she treated her betrothed.
"Yes, I'm going home for Christmas," he half-snapped. What kind of question was that? "Are you staying here or something?" Edgar's attention was everywhere: he had been a bit on edge because his classes hadn't been going as well lately, and he was certain his parents would be on his tail for it.
"I'm sorry, it's a shit day," Edgar mumbled, caring none that he'd let his vocabulary slip, never mind in public. He casually reached down for Rosalie's hand as if it was the most ordinary thing for them to do.

It was around dinnertime, but Kameron was unfortunately headed up the stairs rather than down them. He would just have to turn around and make the trip back soon, but first he had to take care of something he'd forgotten in his dorm. It could probably have waited, but then he'd have thought about the entirety of dinner and not really enjoyed his food, so he thought he'd take care of it now.
Taking the steps two at a time was probably dangerous with other students still milling about them, but he was in a hurry. He didn't take any notice to the people around him as he did so, brushing past the arguing couple that were heading down the steps.
At the snap, Rosalie glanced sideways at him with a slight frown. Maybe she should have expected that he would go home, but it had been a sensible question all the same - not everyone did. She wished that she wasn’t. The castle would be nice and quiet with most of the occupants gone, and there was none of the stress that came with being at home. “Yes, I’m going home too,” she said, trying to brush off his snap.
Her eyes flickered down to their hands, and then grasped his in turn. They were going to be married, hand holding was just another part of that. “What’s happened?” she asked. Because that was the question that she meant to ask, meant to be concerned about why his day had apparently been poor, biting her tongue on the comment that that didn’t mean he could just snap at her.
Tolbert came up the stairs, brushing past them, and apart from moving slightly to the side so there wasn’t an actual collision, Rosalie paid him no mind. He’d pushed her in the lake once, she’d gotten upset back, otherwise, she didn’t really think about him.
What Edgar hadn't told Rosalie that it had been more than just a shit day, so he merely grunted at first as he tried to come up with some solid answer to give her without really going into details about--
"Tolbert!" he hissed at the sight of Kameron rushing up the stairs. They'd left things off rather unacceptably. Kameron had been totally rude and selfish, and Edgar was none too pleased. Never letting go of Rosalie's hand, the snake turned on his heels and made up the stairs toward the lion, albeit not as quickly.

About halfway up the set of stairs Kameron decided that two at a time was too much effort, instead moving to run up the remaining stairs normally. He went up and down them every day so he should be more used to how many there were, but he also didn't normally try to run them.
Due to the slower pace, he was most definitely still in ear shot when he heard his name being called out in a voice he knew. Nope, not turning around for that one. He didn't have time to be dealing with Edgar Halifax's tantrums about life not being fair. Instead, he just continued on his way up the stairs.
Waiting for Edgar to answer the question, she kept on moving down the stairs. Until suddenly he turned, pulling her back up them. "Woah," she said softly, losing her balance for a moment, and scrambling to catch it as Edgar headed back up them. "What are you doing?" she hissed at him, not the least bit impressed by being dragged around, or the fact that he was yelling after the Gryffindor boy.
What in Merlin's name was he thinking. He was going to cause a scene, and Rosalie would quite prefer to not be a part of that, thank you very much.
"Don't you ignore me, Tolbert!" Edgar shouted up at the staircase as he ignored the girl he was toting along with him. It looked like Kameron had slowed down, which made it easier for the snake to catch up. If he could just reach Kameron--
"Tolbert!" he repeated, reaching out with his free hand for the other boy--his hand, his shoulder, whatever was easiest while they were moving on a staircase. "Dammit!"

Oh bugger, the voice was getting closer it seemed. That was the opposite of what Kameron wanted to have happen, but that didn't stop him from continuing on his way. He had made up his mind and it wasn't going to change now. Until he felt a tugging on his shirt.
Whirling, he rounded on the other boy, removing himself from the grasp as he moved."What?"The word wasn't as annoyed or snappy as he wanted since he was out of breath from running up several flights of stairs, but he'd tried.
And not only was Edgar just dragging her up the stairs, he was also ignoring her. Right. Fine. This was perfectly fine. Why would she have a problem with what was doing on. But she held her tongue as they continued moving up the stairs.
"That's what I'd like to know," she said, keeping her tone soft so it didn't carry, once Tolbert was facing Edgar. "What are you doing?" Except for very clearly making a scene in the middle of the staircase.
What was he doing? He was...he was confronting Kameron Tolbert! Edgar's face went from uncertain and confused to confident and intense in a matter of seconds, and he jabbed a finger at the other boy's chest. "I helped you and you ran off! You used me, and that's not okay," he snapped.
Now, Edgar didn't usually mind being used by people, as long as he got something out of it. He didn't get anything out of Kameron turning his back on him and walking away that one day, and he wasn't going to let it slide. Why should he?

For a brief second, Kam's eyes flickered to the girl with Halifax. She was clearly uninvolved in this and he felt sort of bad that she'd been dragged along. But that's sort of what she got for hanging around people like the Slytherin in front of him. It was almost enough to make him just turn and go on his way again, because he was pretty sure he could outrun them in Halifax was insistent on dragging the girl with him some more.
Until there was a finger being brandished in his direction. "Oh please, like you've never used someone to get what you want," he said with a snort. "Don't even try to play the victim here."

Rosalie glanced between the two boys, eyes narrowing. "Would either of you care to give me the background information for this conversation? Or am I just going to keep standing here being confused?" She could have just held her mouth and let them have out whatever it was that they were having out. But if Edgar was so insistent on dragging her around everywhere, then she was not just going to stay quiet.
Tolbert had a point. Using people to get what he wanted was definitely Edgar's style.
Edgar thought for a moment. When was the last time he'd used someone to get what he wanted?
Ignoring Rosalie, he jabbed the finger at Kameron again and said, "No, you don't get to say that! Who do you think you are? You didn't know who you were! You're fucking welcome, Tolbert! You're just an asshole." He pursed his lips and narrowed his eyes. "There." He turned toward Rosalie. "Let's go."

"You don't get to tell me what I do and don't get to say," Kameron shot back immediately, glad to be a step above the other two so that he had some leverage. "I told you I didn't even want your help but you did it anyway. It's not my fault you're unhappy with the result." It also wasn't like he was just going to throw the information away now that he had it, help wanted or not. It was done, and that was all he was concerned about.
Quite annoyed, he turned to the girl. "You should probably try to control him better. God knows he needs a minder." It was a low blow, he knew that much, but oh well. What's done was done.
