As it turned out, Anna did not much fancy working in an office. Though she was mostly a field reporter, she couldn't really wrap her head around deadlines and reporting to someone. You'd think that after so many years at Hogwarts, she would have gotten better. But no. Anna was still the stubborn, independent girl who listened to no rules. She could be counted on for just a few things. One was that when she eventually did get her work done, it was written and edited flawlessly. The second was that she was still very much so in love with Wayland Pyne.
Anna was nearly eighteen now-- her birthday was just a week away on Hallowe'en. She was amazed at how quickly the time passed. It seemed just a few months ago that she had been trying on the sorting hat. It had barely touched her head before it shouted Gryffindor. Smiling at this fond memory, Anna tucked away her quill and parchment and dodged out of the office, even though it was only half three in the afternoon.
The streets of London were crowded with tourists as usual, but Anna felt at home here. How many summers had she escaped here, taking the train in and meandering along the Thames just to find peace? The days were countless and the memories good. She found herself once more in Whitehall gardens, where she had spent so much time on the grass. It was too cold for that now, but the sun shone strongly on the grass. It had been a warm year, which continued even today. Anna tucked her hands in her pockets and stared out at the river, wondering what her eighteenth birthday would bring.
