Duke's babysitter for the day was someone he didn't know. His dad had dropped him off and Duke had called Stranger Danger on this person. But unlike the real Stranger Danger, he hadn't been able to contain the tiny terror. So the little werewolf had swiped a twenty out of the person's wallet and then hit the road. But since he didn't have a real destination in mind, he sort of just meandered in a direction.
It was really cold though and he probably should have a jacket. What was the point of being a werewolf if he didn't even have super cool body heat or anything else like that? Eventually he couldn't just keep going. He didn't have a cell phone or anything cool like that on him, so he had to duck into a diner. It was sort of greasy and he already loved it. It smelled like food and adventure.
Borrowing a phone took seconds, and he dialed Caspian's number. The voice was not Caspian. Maybe it was his roommate? Camden wasn't Caspian. So he hung up. And then he dialed another number that sounded about right. This was also not Caspian. About thirty minutes later he finally had the right number. "Come get me. It's cold." And he hung up. Obviously Caspian would know where he was and how to get him. His uncle was the best.
It just so happened that this was one of the rare days off that Caspian seemed to get - which was probably a good thing, considering that his phone did play up when inside the ministry, because technology still wasn't a big fan of that magic thing. He was however taking Captain for a run when his phone started ringing. Not recognising the number, he answered it anyway. Oh, that was Duke. He didn't manage to say anything before the boy hung up.
...that was not helpful. If Duke had been able to tell him where he was. But now he had to figure that out on his own. He worked it out eventually, by tracing the phone number that had run him. Which eventually led him to Duke. "Hey, kiddo," he greeted, walking up to the boy. "What are you doing here all on your own?"

Using his stolen twenty, Duke had ordered pie. And by the time pie arrived, so had his uncle Caspian! Which meant he was safe! "Uncle Caspiannnn!" He was very excited to see the other male. "Do you want pie?" As a sign of ultimate love, he even offered up a bite of pie to Caspian. After all, the other male had come to save him, so he deserved pie. He was a good uncle.
"Well I had a babysitter. But I don't think they were a real person. More like a robot. So I escaped out the bathroom and then I wandered and now I'm here!" That was the short and sweet version of the story, because it seemed like a boring thing. He'd just sort of found ways to amuse himself and get into where ever he was. "Can I have your jacket?" Because he was cold and obviously Caspian wasn't.
What on earth was this boy doing in Canada? How had he even gotten to Canada? Did Jonas have any idea what was going on? Somehow he doubted it. He shook his head. "That's okay, I don't feel like any pie at the moment." He probably did need to eat lunch soon, but that was another matter altogether.
A robot. Somehow Caspian doubted that one too. Jonas had likely not left his son with a robot. Even Jonas wasn't that ridiculous. "You probably shouldn't have snuck out," he commented, and then shrugged off his jacket. It was freezing out here - it was Canada and winter after all - but he wasn't going to keep his jacket when Duke needed it. "Sure." He draped it over Duke's shoulders.

Sliding his little arms into the sleeves of Caspian's jacket, he grinned. "Do you think I'll get big enough to fit into this proper?" Right now his arms fit in, but the jacket just ate him up. Which meant it was more like a blanket that he was able to snuggle into. He could probably take a nap. "When you meet stranger danger, you gotta escape." He stated, as if it was plain for everyone to see.
"After you get to a safe place, you get a snack and then call someone reliable." Aka uncle Caspian. It was all apart of his plan and everything was perfect. "See? It worked. I'm safe. I have you. We're okay." He stated with a head nod. It would be a lot easier if Caspian just understood everything that was in Duke's brain. But where would the fun be in that?
His jacket did dwarf the boy, which caused Caspian to smile. "Maybe one day," he said, though really, he didn't know if he would. Caspian was rather tall. "You've got a lot of growing ahead of you, first." Stranger danger. Caspian shook his head. "Your dad wouldn't have placed you with anyone that he didn't trust," he pointed out. Whether Duke actually listened to him was another matter altogether.
"Well you did very well at getting safe and calling me," he had to give him that. After all, he wasn't still wandering aimlessly around Canada. "You just gotta be careful, kay?"

"But I'm a werewolf. Doesn't that mean I stop growing?" If Duke knew things about being a werewolf, it was all a lie. Honestly, he didn't understand most of it. Instead it just confused him. So he just went with it. He bit people without hesitation and so far he'd only turned one other person into a werewolf. So he might not understand how to become a werewolf or what it meant to be one, but he was pretty good at living as one. "Nah. It's like spy training so that if I pass it I can go to work for you."
There was a debate on if he'd take over his dad's job after Hogwarts or if he would become an Auror. He wanted to be a super hero, like his uncle Caspian. "I will. Besides, it's Canada. There's no crime here. It's the safest place on Earth." Obviously. He wasn't stupid.
"Uh, no, Duke," he said, shaking his head with a slight frown. This boy didn't really understand that much about being a werewolf did he? That was actually a little bit concerning. "You keep growing as a werewolf. It's vampires that stop growing." Maybe they needed to find another werewolf to talk to Duke about all of this.
Spy training? Coming and working for him? He shook his head again, though a smile pulled at the corner of his lip. "You got a while to go before you can come and work for me," he said, reaching out to ruffle his hair.
He was however, a little bit concerned. Duke was going to get himself hurt. "There's crime everywhere, Buddy. You gotta be careful in Canada too."

"No. 'Cuz Xave is a vampire, and he's getting bigger and I'm not." This was not the case, but it felt like it was. Duke was almost positive that Xavier was bigger then him now. Also it'd be weird if he was stuck as a little kid forever. Duke wanted to stay a kid forever too, if Xave did. He didn't want Xave to get lonely. "That's supposed to be the best part about being a werewolf. Immortality."
Awhile? "I'll be in Hogwarts next year. That's old enough to come and work for you." Because obviously a first year at Hogwarts could totally become an Auror. Everyone knew that. Also this was family. Caspian was totally his uncle and was his favorite uncle. "And you have to help me become a super hero like you." Because that's what Caspian was. A perfect super hero. Cape and all.
Crime in Canada? It was like a joke. "No there's not. The only bad things in Canada are large mooses. And I'm a werewolf. I can beat a moose in a fight." Werewolf vs moose. It would be the fight of the century.
Wait. What. No, that's not... Man, was he going to have to talk to Jonas to try and get him to get to Duke. He shook his head at the boy. "You got that backwards, buddy. Vampires don't get bigger, werewolves do." Man, imagine being stuck as a child vampire forever... it was an unpleasant thought. He felt terrible for the poor kid. "You're not immortal. You still gotta be careful." Duke was definitely going to get himself terribly hurt at some point.
"You gotta get through Hogwarts before you can come work for me. But you'll learn all sorts of stuff at school that will help with that." He wasn't really sure what Hogwarts was like, because he hadn't gone there, but hey. The talk of being a superhero made him smile, and he reached out and ruffled Duke's hair. "I can help you with that."
He sighed softly. If this was another circumstance he might have been slightly amused, but he was really just a little concerned. "You're only a werewolf on the full moon, bud. You couldn't do anything about that right now."

Duke was trying to think about this very carefully. When it came to people, he really didn't think Caspian would ever lie to him. When it came to all people, Caspian was his favorite uncle. "Are you sure?" Because he was pretty sure he hadn't gotten any bigger in a few years. Ever since becoming a werewolf, he thought he'd been the same. It was just really weird, but he was trying to think about things.
"All eight years?" He whined. Did he really have eight years before he could work with Caspian? "What if I just like come over summers and start working on it then?" After all, he could slowly learn things. "Then when I graduate, I'll have a step up." Because he could then just go ahead and become a full fledged super hero, since that was the only thing that mattered.
That seemed false. Maybe Caspian needed to know more things about werewolves. "I'm always a werewolf." He argued.
"I'm sure." He was going to have to talk to Jonas, to make sure that he would talk to his son about these sorts of things. The boy couldnt go around with such a wrong view about the things that involved him, that was not going to end well.
"You can come over in the summer and I'll give you a show around," he said. "And maybe when you're a bit older we can see about that. You still have a lot to learn, bud." Considering he hadn't even started his magical education.
Caspian frowned a little bit at him. "You'd get hurt if you attacked a moose right now," he said, instead of arguing the point.

If Duke was smarter, he'd probably realize his favorite uncle was more or less just telling him what he wanted to hear. "I'm gonna make you proud. And after I graduate, I'll be your best super hero spy." Duke was not smart, but he generallymeant very very well. He was just happy that his uncle had come to the wilds of Canada to save him.
"Why not? They're not that strong." Duke was totally stronger then a moose. Maybe later he'd go pick a fight with a moose just to prove he could totally win. It'd be impossible for the creature to beat him.
Best superhero spy. That made Caspian smile. He did like being around kids a lot. They could be really cute. He did want some of his own one day. He'd basically raised his cousins, and Elsie had a little one, but that wasn't quite the same. He wanted some of his own. He ruffled Duke's hair. "I look forward to it."
"They're pretty strong, and they're a lot bigger than you expect them to be." You didn't think that they would be, and then they were. Animals were weird.
