As the girl looked away from her, Freya's lip quirked momentarily. Gotcha. She dropped her expression back to neutrality as the girl was still looking away from her, debating her next move. The looking away suggested that it was her who had been cast aside. "If you could get back at the people that hurt you, would you do it?" she questioned.

Attention turning again, Athena looked at the woman next to her. She wanted to deny that anything had happened, but at this point they both knew it was a lie. She would really have to work on control some more. Strangers learning her secrets wasn't something Athena was very keen on. "They're dead. There's nothing left of them to hurt."
"But people like them still are," Freya said, watching the girl. Maybe there was something here, after all. "People who are still alive, who would do the same thing, who deserve that hurt." So many people in the blastard pureblood community... It was full of it. Full of people who would throw their young to the wolves.

"But those people don't affect me. Why should I care what they do or don't do?" she asked with a raised eyebrow. She wasn't above hurting people for the sake of it, but usually she aimed to gain something from it. This didn't sound like it gained her anything yet. But perhaps she was wrong.
Self serving. Or perhaps wanting to appear self serving. Sometimes it was difficult to tell. What did you offer people that were just out for themselves? The things that benefited them personally, and not the community as a whole. “Don’t they? Your parents did not exist in a vacuum. The rest of society built their actions too.” People out for themselves tended to care about knowledge, about power. About putting themselves into the position of the victor, and not one where they would be the victim again. “Maybe you don’t care about what they do or don’t do, but I’m sure you want to be better than them anyway, don’t you? Learn things that they don’t know. Gain power over them.”

Athena's eyes narrowed as she studied the woman. She could just feel the situation slipping out of her fingers and she hated it. She hated that there were still people who could manipulate her emotions, who knew more than her, who went through the world with a power she wanted for her own. And she hated that they knew it as well. But she wanted it, craved it like it was food, water, air, and that was the only reason she didn't turn this woman down and walk away right now. "You're not playing fairly," she accused lightly. The words were stiff anyway.
