The weather was cold and miserable, but Blaine was adventuring out into it anyway. She didn't mind the nip in the air, though she could do with a warm fire right about now. Or at least a heating charm. Preferably before her fingers froze off despite being stuffed in her coat pockets and encased in mittens. She had been trying to arrange times to meet with her future siblings-in-law, but catching any of them was proving nearly impossible with the schedules they were all on, especially with two of them still being in school. It wasn't like they were strangers to each other. They'd all shared Hogwarts together at some point or another, though Blaine had been teaching for the duration she shared the school with Ada as opposed to being a student there. However, she wasn't as close to anyone as she would like to be, thus she was taking time to get with them and bond a little bit before she married into the family. That was what people were supposed to do, right?
In hindsight, picking the ice cream parlor in February probably hadn't been the brightest idea, but it was too late now. The establishment probably served hot chocolate, so there was that at least. She was certain there would be warm options for them to choose from, unless the ice cream ended up being more appealing despite the temperatures outside. Either way, she hurried inside once she saw the building, taking a moment in the doorway to shiver and embrace the warmth that was now washing over her. That was much better than being outside. She took one of the many empty tables to wait. The building was sparsely populated, since most people had the sense to avoid ice cream in the winter, so hopefully it would be easy to spot Franklin once he came in. If not, hopefully she was easy enough to spot where she was sitting.
There was quite a clash between his schedule and the schedules of your average working person. He wasn’t sure why, but it was there, he didn’t have standard days off, and he preferred that usually. It did make it hard for him to meet up with people who did have normal hours though. Though, admittedly, he wasn’t actually sure what normal hours were for the wizarding world. Did everyone just work when they were needed? It seemed like that, most places didn’t operate under what muggles would consider normal business hours he didn’t think. Actually, a lot of places seemed to run twenty-four seven, and just sort of needed to because of the services they offered. Anyway, his job wasn’t like that, and so he had a decent amount of time off after working mostly daylight hours. Today he was off though, and going to meet up with his sister-in-law to be. He knew her in school, being that she was in the same house as him, and she seemed nice enough. He was happy his brother and her got along well honestly, but they had never been particularly close so he didn’t know her as well as he possibly should. Thus, they were meeting up for a bit.
The ice cream parlor was an odd choice, but he liked ice cream in the winter so he wasn’t going to complain. Being cold was fine, he’d just find more blankets and sweaters to nest under later. He wandered his way into the building and looked around. Blaine was easy enough to spot and he wandered over to her table before taking a seat across from her. “Hey, how have you been?” he asked her curiously with a slight smile. Just because he lived with his brother didn’t mean he saw her a whole lot. He surely hoped his brother saw his fiancé more than he did. That was how things were supposed to be wasn’t it? He was pretty sure that was accurate. “So, did you actually want to get ice cream?” he asked, moderately curious with a raised eyebrow. If she didn’t that was fine, but perhaps she did. Admittedly, he did kind of want ice cream, but maybe only if hot fudge was involved.
Picking the ice cream parlour had been a bit of a strange choice on her part, but it did mean that there wouldn't be a ton of people around them. It would give them a bit more privacy than a crowded place to catch up. Not that they particularly needed the privacy but it was still nice to have all the same. It also made spotting people easier, which was useful because she saw Franklin as soon as he walked inside. She was about to call him over when he spotted her on his own and walked to the table. That worked out nicely, since Blaine didn't really want to call attention to the table. It was a bit weird to see him in such a casual setting without Edison also being there, because any time she'd seen him since graduating had been when she was visiting his brother.
"Hey," she returned, smiling easily as he approached. While she wasn't as close to him as she was his brothers, Blaine still liked Franklin enough. "I've been well. What about you?" A year ago she probably would have given a different answer, but things had been looking up for the redhead lately so she was quite happy. Ever since reuniting with Edison, she'd been a lot more settled with life, not that she'd disliked it before. But it had set something into motion. She was happy with her career finally. She was going to get married into a family that she got along with. There was little else she could ask for. "I'm not opposed to ice cream, but I think they have hot chocolate as well," she offered. It was a bit cold to be eating ice cream but they were inside so it wasn't too bad.
Ice cream shops were generally quiet this time of year, and he appreciated quiet so he thought it was a pretty good choice. He didn’t really like loud areas all that much anyway. Besides, it was easier for them to catch up if it wasn’t super loud. Usually when he saw Blaine it was because she was with his brother. It was hard to catch up when it felt like you were interrupting a date of sorts. Thus, them going out on their own seemed like a better idea for such things. Now it was just a matter of what should they order. After all, they couldn’t just sit in here and not order anything, that would be rude.
Anyway, he spotted her in the shop and sat across from her. He asked how she had been and she asked about him in return. “I’ve been well too.” He said with a slight smile at her. Things were much the same for him ever since he graduated, but that wasn’t a bad thing. He lived with his brothers, and that was fine. Perhaps he needed a bit more excitement in his life though. Right now it was just a tad boring if he had to complain about something. He would have to actively change things in order to make it more exciting though, and he wasn’t really partial to change. He liked things staying the same as they were. He asked if she actually planned on ordering ice cream, and she stated that she thought they also had hot cocoa. Oh, he hadn’t realized that was an option. “Oh, really? I still kind of want ice cream. Maybe with hot fudge so that it’s not too cold. Also hot chocolate.” He said simply with a slight shrug as he thought about it. Seemed like a good option to him honestly.
She was glad to hear that he'd been well and her smile easily conveyed that as she settled back into her seat, relaxing more now that the initial small talk was out of the way. There would probably be a bit more, but it would hopefully be more interesting than the typical 'how are you's that started conversations. As he suggested getting hot fudge on the ice cream so it was more bearable, Blaine found herself nodding in agreement. "That actually sounds pretty good." After all what good was coming to an ice cream parlour if you didn't get ice cream? She had mostly just been thinking about how dreadfully cold it was outside when she's suggested the hot chocolate. Getting warmer things was sure to make the experience more comfortable, even if it was decently warm inside already. "Did you know what flavor you wanted?" she asked once she was decided. That way they could get the ice cream ordered before they got too into their catching up.
He looked over the menu trying to figure out what it was he really wanted. He had narrowed it down mostly, but he was still doing some last minute details. He did need a flavor of ice cream after all. Standard hot fudge was usually just vanilla, but he didn’t really want vanilla. He commented upon the hot fudge making the cold more bearable, and she agreed that it sounded good. Maybe she would also get ice cream then? Ice cream and hot chocolate honestly seemed like a bit of a ridiculous combination, but they were in an ice cream parlor in winter so they only had themselves to blame for it. She asked if he had decided about the flavor and he nodded. “I think I’ll get strawberry with hot fudge. What about you?” he asked her with a raised eyebrow. It wasn’t the most exciting or exotic of flavors, but it would go well with the hot fudge he thought and strawberry ice cream was his favorite so it was kind of the standard go to for him. Once they got their ice cream ordered they could go back to catching up, but until then they should probably hold off until they actually ordered. Wouldn't want anyone to think they were just borrowing the place to chat instead of actually getting anything.
Picking an ice cream flavor was always an adventure. There were so many options and Blaine had quite a few that she liked enough to purchase now. The added thought of hot fudge of course would influence that, because it would have to be something that went well with chocolate. Still, many things went well with chocolate, and she was having a little trouble making a decision. "Hmmm," she hummed thoughtfully. "I think I'm gonna have to go with chocolate on chocolate." Plus the hot chocolate. That was a lot of chocolate, but that was fine really. She would probably regret it once it was all consumed because she'd probably be super hyped from it all, but today was about having a good time and energy was useful for that.
Franklin had decided to go with his favorite ice cream flavor instead of going adventurous today, but that was okay. He could always get something more interesting next time, he thought today called for a sort of classic pairing for him. Besides, who didn’t like strawberries and chocolate? Well, he supposed people who were allergic to those things didn’t like them, but they didn’t count for opinions on the matter. He asked what she was thinking and he chuckled a bit at her response. “You going for a chocolate coma then?” he asked with a slight grin. She apparently was feeling all of the chocolate today, but that was fine chocolate was good he just didn’t think he could handle that amount. Sure he had a sweet tooth, but that was a bit on the extreme side.
Perhaps she was going a bit overboard on the chocolate, but none of the other flavors were really calling to her today. Oh well. She could stomach it. Chocolate was the absolute best and Blaine was pretty sure she could live on it if she had to. That wasn't healthy but whatever. At the very least she knew she could survive the day without a stomach ache. She'd done it before. "Chocolate coma..." she mused with a smile. "I guess I am, yes." That was certainly one way to put things. This would probably ruin any meals for the rest of the day too, but that was also okay. Midnight snacking was a thing she could do.
Franklin liked chocolate, but clearly not to the extent that Blaine did. He didn’t think he could ever handle that much chocolate without something else to at least slightly cut how sweet that would be. If she wanted that amount of sweet though, then that was all her. He’d stick with his strawberry and chocolate though certainly. At least she found his chocolate coma comment funny, as he wasn’t sure what he would have done if she hadn’t. “I don’t think I could ever handle that amount of chocolate in one sitting, so more power to you,” he said with a slight smile at her. Of course, he’d probably end up skipping dinner himself later because of ice cream, but he could get snacks if he really needed to. It would be fine, besides it saved his brother from having to cook for all of them right?
"Honestly, I'm not sure I can handle it myself," she said with a giggle. She was definitely going to do her best though. It was just too tempting, all of that chocolate. It was one of her favorite flavors after all. There were other things she could have paired it with, of course, but she wasn't really feeling any of them today. If nothing else, she could probably get them to let her take any leftover ice cream along with her and charm it to not melt. Not that it was likely to melt that much anyway considering it was definitely very winter outside.
Blaine admitted that she wasn’t sure she could handle it herself and he laughed slightly. “I wish you all the luck. Hopefully it doesn’t give you a stomach ache,” he said simply. As long as she didn’t make herself sick then it would be fine. He was pretty sure Edison would be at least slightly mad at him if she got sick eating ice cream with him. Though he supposed she could always stop eating if it was just too much chocolate to handle. Anyway, he ordered his ice cream and hot cocoa. He was looking forward to both now and hoped it didn’t take too long for them to get it ready. “I guess it’s time to figure out if you can handle that amount of chocolate,” he teased with a slight grin. He was slightly curious as to if she could or not honestly.
Perhaps a trip out to bond with her future brother-in-law wasn't the best time to test her chocolate tolerance, but Blaine was committed now. She would just have to pace herself carefully and make sure she didn't over do things. Hopefully it would all be fine though. She liked chocolate well enough and it had never done her wrong before. "Thanks for the luck. I'll probably need it," she said with a grin, pleased when things arrived to the table quickly. "Here goes nothing, I guess?"
He wished his sister-in-law to be luck with her mass of chocolate, and hoped that he didn’t have to take her home sick to Edison. His brother would probably yell at him then fuss over her for the rest of the day. He was pretty sure both of them wanted to avoid that if possible. He had his strawberry ice cream and hot cocoa, and took a few bites while she looked over her chocolate pile. “Should have gotten brownies and chocolate chunks while you were at it,” he teased with a slight laugh before taking another bite of his ice cream. As long as they didn’t eat too fast then it would probably be fine. Though, admittedly, they might be a bit cold for a while after.
Though she wouldn't say the two of them were very close, Blaine was definitely enjoying her time with Franklin today. It was good to get to bond with him without Edison being around. it made it more genuine in a way, where they both weren't trying to get to know each other while also keeping Edie satisfied. "I think that might have been definite overkill," she said with a laugh. Like what she already had wasn't overkill enough. Chocolate coma for days. Smiling, she slowly made her way into the treats. "Thankfully we're inside or this might have been a bad idea." Ice cream in winter was certainly a strange one.
