Petra was in a weird mood. Things were just...here and there for her. Really she wished she could change things in her life, but she wasn't sure what she needed to do. The divorce was final. The child had been buried. She had cried all of the tears she thought she had in her. So now instead she needed to figure out what all she wanted to deal with. Her best friend in the whole wide world was letting her live in her house rent free.
Having dressed in possibly her sluttiest dress, she fixed her hair before sending her best friend an owl. They were going to go dancing and everything was going to be perfect. All they needed to do was spend time together and have fun. For once she wanted to get her brain distracted and just focus on all of the other things going on in the world.
She got to the club a little bit before Athena, but that was just fine. Pushing her hair off of her shoulders, she looked around. Ordering a drink, she decided she'd wait. Athena would show up and they'd dance. It'd be great.

Spending time at the house in Greece that no one knew the location of was Athena's favorite way to recharge. With practices picking up with more vigor, she needed more and more time to herself. However, when she got a letter with an invitation out from Petra, she was more than willing to oblige. Life had been strange and difficult for the both of them lately, so a night to forget and just have fun was definitely in order. Plus time spent with the other girl was always a good time.
Getting dressed to go out was always an ordeal for Athena, because she loved making a statement with whatever she wore, so it took her a little bit of time to find the perfect dress for the evening. Once she was satisfied that it would indeed make a statement, she headed off to meet with her best friend.
The place was a little crowded already, but navigating to the bar was easy enough. It was still early on so things weren't too crazy yet. Spotting Petra, she maneuvered her way over and bumped her shoulder into the other girl's. "What have we here? The ever elusive Petra Bones," she teased, even if she was the one that had disappeared. Again. She should work on that.
Turning to the bartender, she ordered herself a drink, wanting to take a moment to chat before they hit the dance floor. "I feel like I haven't seen you in about a week."

Things with her best friend was better then anything else. Putting her drink back on the counter, she wrapped her arms around her best friend in a hug. "I love you so much." Which was important. Without Athena, Petra wouldn't be able to keep going. This past year would have ended the small werewolf. "Thank you for coming out with me on last minute." She needed this.
She picked her drink back up, she grinned. "I know. Work has been hectic, but I love it." It gave her something else to focus on. She didn't have to think about losing her kid when she was off having to kill people. She didn't have to think about the sad things when there was so much else going on. "Besides, how are you? How's the team? How's the shop? Do I need to pack you a lunch again? You stopped coming over for dinners." Petra knew Athena had two houses and she was fine with only having access to the one.
Still, she felt the need to at least attempt to take care of her best friend. Which meant the fridge was usually packed full of food.

Though she probably should have been used to the hugs by now, having known Petra for quite some time, Athena was still taken aback by the action and just stood there with her arms down by her sides until the other girl pulled back again. "Don't worry about it. I needed a night out anyway," she said, waving away the words.
She was glad to hear that Petra was enjoying her job, though, even if she didn't show it very much. There had been a time there when she'd worried for the other girl, as much as Athena worried about anything, but apparently things were ironed out now and settled down. "It's good that you like your job now," she said sincerely. "I'm surviving, the team is decent, and the shop is annoying as always." The concern would have been touching, but Athena shrugged if off instead. "I do know how to cook for myself, Petra. I promise I'm eating enough."
It was strange to have someone so concerned for her well being, but Athena wouldn't begrudge the girl for it.

If there was a person Petra loved enough to sacrifice the world for, that person would be Athena. Athena was Petra's other half in every way that counted. It made Petra feel better having someone with her. She wasn't alone outside of school and she'd never be alone.
Hearing about everything, Petra nodded. She should be used to Athena sort of shrugging things off. But something told her that she never would be. Instead she looked at her friend. "Why is the shop annoying?" If she could do something to help, she would. After all, this was her best friend. "And I know you can. I just worry about you. I just feel better getting to do something."

once upon a time.
"It's not so much the shop itself, but the people that frequent the shop." Especially the more haughty visitors that looked down on her like she didn't know anything due to her age. If there was one thing she absolutely couldn't stand... "You really needn't waste time worrying about me. You just take care of yourself, okay? I'm fine." She wasn't worth the expended energy of being worried about, mostly because she worried about very little in return.
The drink she'd ordered arrived in front of her, and Athena subsequently downed it. "We should dance," she said once the glass was back on the bar again. That was what she'd come out for after all.

Petra looked down. "I just feel better having more things to focus on then...." She didn't want to say her son's name. She didn't want to say anything about the divorce. Maybe that's one of the many reasons she wanted to spend so much time with Athena. She just felt better. She could take care of Athena and no one could take Athena away from her. She was pretty sure Athena might kill anyone who tried.
She did drink her drink, although she went slower then Athena. That was fine though. Instead she bobbed her head up and down. "Sure." Right. Dancing. Looking good. This was part of Petra's plan to become a normal person again, even if it was almost impossible. But she was on her feet and moving towards the dance floor.

once upon a time.
As Petra spoke again, Athena stalled slightly. She hadn't even thought about why Petra behaved as she did. She gave little to no thought to the hardships her friend had been through recently. She often didn't give thought to anyone but herself, but she'd try to be better. "Okay," she said, looking at the other girl seriously. "Then I'll stop complaining about it. You do what you need to, okay?"
She watched and waited for Petra to finish off her drink as well, wanting an affirmative to her suggestion. Once she got it, she reached out and took Petra's hand in her own, leading the both of them out to the dance floor. The music seemed even louder there and it was the perfect chance to just get lost and forget everything.

And this was why her best friend was the best friend in the whole wide world. Athena understood why Petra needed to do something, even if she didn't understand why the thing was taking care of her. Sure, Petra would take care of Romeo, if they were more involved. But they were friends and they'd started having the sex. Petra wasn't sure what else she needed to do. It was a weird place to be with their relationship, but it seemed to be working for them. "Thank you." And really, she was sure she had the best friend in the whole wide world.
Even just holding Athena's hand made the night worth it. And getting into onto the dance floor was nice too. It might be her first night of not being able to think about everything that had happened to her. Instead all she'd be able to think about was going to be Athena and the moment they were in. Maybe there'd be cute boys later on. Getting to a good spot, she let go of Athena's hand and instead lost herself in the music. This was the most perfect moment since graduating.

once upon a time.
Making sure to not lose Petra in the crowd, Athena let the music wash over her for a moment before she began moving to the beat of it, keeping close to her friend as she did so. She knew exactly how to move her body to make people stop and stare should they notice. It was usually just the effect she wanted. She liked being the center of attention. She liked being noticed. She wanted people to talk or stare. This was the perfect setting for such a thing.

Petra almost forgot to dance. The truth was, she'd never seen anyone move the way Athena did. Sure, in theory Petra could do the same things. But she couldn't remember ever actually doing that. So instead, she was trying to figure this out. She mimicked Athena. It was a little bit clunkier then she would have liked, but she could get used to this.
For possibly the only time in her life, Athena noticed that someone else was having difficulties. She wasn't always the best at noticing when people were struggling, usually too caught up in herself. Reaching out, she took Petra's hand in her own and spun the girl, trying to aid her in moving more naturally to the beat.
