Headmaster Gladstone had grudgingly allowed Sirius Black to organize the Valentine's Day party for the students. It was the festival of love after all and the students needed some sort of an distraction. All of the exams and homework was certainly stressful and seeing as Sirius had never been studious one himself, he knew that this would be the perfect way to make everyone happy. The whole of Great Hall had been decorated with eloquent red and pink with the help of couple of students that professor Black had abducted asked to help. Sirius had gotten a good idea to enlarge big soap bubbles and they were now hovering up in the ceiling. The kitchen had provided snacks, drinks and food for everyone.
Sirius was excited. I mean, it was Valentine's Day. Remus had been invited ( he better show up or Sirius would decorate his office with the color pink ) and Sirius had a good surprise for him too. Yes, he had brought him chocolate again but at least he tried. Romulus Redgrave was standing on the doorway, gaping at the Great Hall. " You sure this isn't..too much?" Sirius eyed the other man. " You're too much." He muttered. " It's fine." Sirius answered waving his hand while finishing decorating the table. " I just hope no one spikes the punch." Romulus wondered out loud. " No worry. If no one does it, I'll do it myself." Sirius Black said and pulled out his own flask. " Black!" " Alright, alright. I won't do it."
He'd still do it.
Gladstone never said no anyway.

Zen had always been a big fan of Valentine’s Day, even though she hadn’t often had someone to celebrate it with romantically. However, she still liked to see the love among others blossoming, and she was a big fan of love in general. She adored seeing the relationships that grew between students, especially seeing the younger ones trying to come to terms with the fact that they could even have those sorts of feelings and being super awkward about it. All of it amused her.
Of course, when the topic of a Valentine’s Day event had been brought up, she’d been more than happy to attend. Of course she’d be on the lookout for any bad behavior, but she’d also be on the lookout for all the adorable moments as well. They’d appeared to have enough help with setting up and planning, so she was just happy to attend and unofficially chaperone. Less work meant more time for fun.
She was running early to the event, though, as per usual. She strode into the Hall, smiling at all the decorations. Spotting a few professors, she rushed over, her eyes bright with excitement. Being a newer addition to the staff, she hadn’t really had the chance to talk to many of them yet, but she was still outgoing enough to say hello anyhow. She was about to say hello when she caught the tail-end of the whole ‘spiking-the-punch’ conversation, and she raised an eyebrow as she approached Sirius. “Aren’t you supposed to let one of the delinquent children do that honor, at least?” She asked, joking.

Annabelle Wolfe was never one to miss a party, especially not one organised by her favourite professor. A lot of people didn't like Valentine's Day, but it was Anna's second favourite holiday. After her birthday of course. She just rolled her eyes at the people who complained about how it was such an overrated holiday, so commercialised. But they were just lonely people incapable of love. It was sad to see that people didn't believe in true love. They got to see it every time she was with Wayland. There was something different between passing phases and a deep spiritual connection.
At the thought of Wayland, Annabelle's face fell. This was an unusual reaction, even as she slicked on the last bit of red lipstick. He had been acting very distant and strange lately. He would kiss her, but it was different. He would smile at her, but it was different. Nothing was unusual, but everything was different. She had resolved to get to the bottom of this soon. But not tonight- tonight they were going to a party. Anna told Wayland to meet her downstairs as she wanted to get there early and make a good impression on Professor Black. Maybe he could write her a reccommendation to do... whatever she ended up doing. Hopefully with Wayland.
Again, the thought of Wayland brought about strange sensations. She loved him no less, though she was unendingly curious as to what had brought about the changes in their relationship. He was terse and abrupt. Did he not love her anymore? No, of course she did. Perhaps the weight of exams was the problem, though it never had been before. Exhaling sharply, Anna forced the thoughts out of her head. She pulled on a dark red dress and tucked her wand away before dashing out of the dorm down to the Great Hall.
The place looked marvellous. It was hard not to feel a bit bubbly and in love just walking in and looking around. She was the first student to have arrived. Usually, she wasn't much of a suck up. But she needed to be social. Anna walked quickly over to the small group of people, beaming. "Hello! It looks wonderful, professor!" said Anna. Her gaze fell to the flask in his hand. "Well, that will make for an interesting night," she noted.
Dances would always be in spite of her reservations. They were the one occasion she indulged the joy of process, art, and fashion. Boys were provisionally attractive, entertaining in the way of a chess match. She had read enough to know that love ws fickle and shallow, and arbitrary, and cruel - sometimes all at once - but then you couldn't reason with hormones. Facing hidden expectations and demands cast in the glossy pages of Which Witch, she decided on the most irrational and absurd course of action. Do the thing that scares you. So, borrowing from a fifth year's closet she dressed in an ironic red and flounced up the stairs, humming a song by Joan Jett.

Arya had not been tapped to help decorate for the party. And she 100% blamed professor Black. She wanted to boycott the party, but she also needed to go and show off. What was she showing off? She had no idea. But there would be something and Professor Black was going to pay. Somehow. So she went to the dance and without any hesitation, slid her hand in Annabelle's.
"Needs more glitter." And she shot Professor Black a death glare. She might just stab him with her wand later on. That would teach him to ignore her. She was important. Okay?

for you i'd bleed myself dry.
Valentine's Day was only a couple of days away now, and he'd already decided that that would be the day he finally asked her. Of course, that meant he had to wait quite awhile, as he'd decided this concrete day a few weeks ago now. Which probably meant that she thought he was acting completely insane, because she could always tell when something was off about him, because she always could.
He was hoping he could pull it together tonight, just for the time being, and convince her that he was acting completely normally. He headed downstairs a little late, as he'd been basically killing time to avoid even more awkward interactions. Upon entering the dance, his eyes went straight to Anna, magnetized to her as always. For all his nervousness and awkwardness, there wasn't a single part of him that wasn't completely sure that he was making the right decision in proposing.
Quietly, he joined the small group that contained Anna, as well as two younger students and two professors. One of the younger girls was a familiar face to Wayland, and he attempted a smile in Arya's direction. He was still unsure if the girl hated him, but it was worth a try. His gaze then fell to the flask in Professor Black's hand. "You know, we can make sure that stays safe." He said with a smirk, coming to a stop by Anna's side, hovering close as he sized up the rest of the room.
A valentines party seemed like an awful lot of fun. Gabriela didn't have a Valentine but she didn't exactly see that as a problem, she could have a fun time without being stuck there with a date. Maybe she would find someone cute to dance with, and kiss. That seemed like a good goal to go into the evening with.
There was a little group on the edge of the room, but there was also a couple of professor's there, and talking to professor's really did not seem like Ela's idea of a good time, so she avoided that, instead looking around for someone else to muck about with.

Dan had been working hard on being more sociable recently. Hearing about the Valentines dance, he'd been unsure as to whether he was going to attend. Deciding he needed to stop being so boring he'd put on some sort of acceptable outfit and made his way down to the Great Hall for the party.
Upon entering the hall a number of people she recognise caught his eye. His cousin Anna was chatting away to Professor Black and some other students, he made an attempt to wave to say hello. Finding the party food was the way forward. Dragging his feet across the room he spotted a table with snacks and a smile stretched across his face. On his way to the table another Gryffindor was stood. "Gabriela!" he said a bit too enthusiastically," Have you had any of the food yet?"

Professor Black was somewhat of a legend for Annabelle. She knew he had been a troublemaker in his day and he was an excellent professor. He was sort of like an older brother, but way way older in a sense. Anna constantly longed for his approval. In fact, one time she had been so overcome with emotion she had hugged him in the middle of the Gryffindor common room. Her faith in him increased tenfold when she spotted the flask in his head. She ought to have said something as a prefect, but she knew the night would be a terrible bore without a little liquid courage. So she encouraged him instead.
The next thing she knew, a tiny hand slipped into hers. Anna turned to see Arya glaring daggers at Professor Black. She gave her hand a squeeze before withdrawing it and wrapping an arm around her shoulder, either to hold her back or protect her. "There is not enough glitter in the world to suit this sort of holiday," said Anna with a smirk.
When Wayland entered the room, it was almost like all the air left. He looked so devastatingly handsome, Anna had to blink a few times to make sure he was real. Her arm rested still around Arya's shoulder, but she had eyes for no one except for him. She forgot that he had been acting strange, that things had felt different, remembering only this moment when she looked at him. She felt herself falling in love all over again.
That was until Wayland stopped about a half metre away from her. Her face fell and she stared at him, confused. She did not reach out to touch him, her pride holding her back. She merely appraised him. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Dan waving at her. She hitched a grin on her face and waved back with her free hand. "Hi Way," said Anna quietly, the lost look still on her face. What was wrong? She still needed to find out why he was keeping her distance. She had thought they could go back to normal, but she didn't know what normal was anymore. Was this the new normal? An endless dance around one another, never admitting that something was wrong? Anna couldn't live like this. She wanted her Wayland back.

"Annabelleeeee!" And then suddenly there was a crash as Tesla wrapped his arms around his fellow prefect and older student. He was pretty sure that Annabelle was one of his favorite people. She seemed to like him as well, so that was always helpful. Maybe life would just be better if he hung out with her more? Really why didn't they see each other that much. There had to be a way they could hang out more.
He wasn't letting go of her though. It wasn't romantic or sexual. It was just attention that he needed.
"Dan!" Gabriela said cheerily as her housemate came over to her. Dan was cute. He was nice. Maybe this would be fun. "Hi! No, I haven't yet," her eyes flickered to the tables where the food was sitting on, and then held her arm out to him. "Would you care to join me on checking out the food?" she asked with a grin.

for you i'd bleed myself dry.
Anna stood beside him, and, as per usual, he could practically read the emotions that were rolling off of her like text playing across a screen. Rather than try to remedy the situation, or try to defend his behavior, he merely kept the affected calm and indifferent persona. He was far too nervous to do much else, and there were so many people gathering around the pair. Another boy, whom Wayland wasn't even sure the name of, came and hugged Anna. She said her hello, and he nodded his own, before noting the arrival of more people.
He took that as his cue to wander over to the refreshments table. He didn't talk to the other two Gryffindors that were there, merely picking up a cookie and beginning to slowly chew on it. He felt a tap on his shoulder and whirled to find the face of Lyzbeth, who was smirking at him. "What, are you just following me around now?" He asked, knowing full well Lyz's presence would only set off Annabelle more. This was perfect...

you gotta be the first to run.
Coming to this Valentine's Day party had been sort of an impulse. Of course, she'd spotted Annabelle getting ready for the event in the dorm. That had been a big motivating factor for her to come, because she knew her presence would likely just tick the other Gryffindor off. If that wasn't an added bonus, Lyz wasn't sure what was. Perhaps she was a little petty in her motivations, but at least she was honest.
She opted to wear a printed dress, which had sleeves, probably barely keeping it in dress code due to the high hemline. She entered the Great Hall, pleased to find most people's attention distracted. She slipped by the growing crowd of people in the middle of the room, spotting Wayland as he wandered away from it. She waved at Dan and Gabriela on the way. "Hey, guys." She called over, beaming at the pair. They were sort of cute together, actually.
She returned her gaze to Wayland's retreating back, following him to the food. Tapping him on the shoulder, she grinned up at him. She could practically feel Annabelle's eyes on her back, and she saw him shift away uncomfortably, knowing that it made him nervous to even think of upsetting his perfect girlfriend in their perfect relationship. "What? I'm not even allowed to say hi now?" She asked, blinking innocently.

Anna turned as she was suddenly attacked by a very familiar form. Laughing, she threw her free arm around Tesla. "It's good to see you too," she said, her mood lightening. That didn't last very long though. Wayland said nothing and turned from her, stalking away. Anna watched him go, a different feeling surging throughout her as she spotted another Gryffindor approaching him. Why couldn't Shephard just leave her alone? Her fingers clenched around Arya's shoulders as she ineffectively tried to maintain her cool, all the while glaring at the backs of Wayland and Shephard.
Was that it? Was that why he was acting so strange? Because he was getting friendly with the enemy? Anna narrowed her eyes, appraising the two of them with a tight jaw. She felt the hot prickling of tears behind her eyes. Exhaling sharply, Anna turned away from the pair. She had been so excited for tonight, a night of normalcy when everything else seemed to be falling to pieces. She looked at the ground, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to spill down her face. Was she cursed? Each year on Valentine's Day, something awful tended to happen. Well, at least the balls and dances.
After some time, Anna managed to look back up again. Studiously avoiding the Gryffindors on the other side of the room, Anna snatched the flask from Professor Black, took a massive gulp then emptied the rest of the contents in the punch bowl. So what if her prefectship was taken away? Nothing was even the same. The need to do something irrational bubbled inside her, making her bold. Anna pointed her wand at an old gramophone in the corner and better dancing music came on. "Lets dance," said Anna, dragging Tesla and Arya with her to the middle of the room.

Dan smiled at Gabriela's offer. As a lover of food the idea was wonderful and he knew he couldn't resist it. "Well of corse. They best have those little pies they usually do." He trotted off to the food table, wondering how much food he could eat this evening without letting the rest of the students starve.
A couple of other Gryffindors were stood by the food already. "Excuse me," he muttered, squeezing past them not really paying any attention to their awkward conversation. As music started to play he looked over to Gabriela holding up a small pie to show her. "Got them!"
