Noel's mother had a failing marriage again. This was his....fifth (?) step father and it seemed like he was destined for more. He wasn't going to push it though. Instead the young male just nodded when he had been informed he needed to come home for winter break. He had packed up his room, as he had hundreds of times before. His stuff had been moved into a room in a tiny apartment and then his mother was saying that they needed a vacation.
So the two had been in America for approximately 3 hours before she vanished. To be fair, she gave him five galleons and then told him to take care. He wasn't really sure when he'd see her again or what he was even supposed to be doing. So he just...sat. He thought vaguely that there had to be a way to contact someone. If he had an owl, he could send a letter to the Auror he met, Jasmine. He was pretty sure she would at least let him have a warm lunch. She might let him sleep on her couch or something.
She'd be safe.
But he didn't have an owl. He didn't have anyone who cared too much. Instead he just had a spot on the sidewalk. His knees were pulled to his chest as he looked around. Maybe he'd be okay? It shouldn't get dark for another hour or two. And it wasn't too cold. So he wouldn't have to worry for awhile, but he was getting hungry. Just how much trouble would he get for doing magic outside of school?
Anakin was looking after Elsie today, so although Avery was now down with work, she did have a little time left before she needed to go and pick up her daughter. The plan was to use that time to run a couple of errands, that got increasingly difficult to accomplish when you had a three year old running around under your feet.
She paused. There was a boy sitting there with his knees pulled into his chest. Was anything the matter? What was he doing? Did he have someone around with him? He wasn't too young to not be allowed to wander on his own, but he did seem to look a little bit overwhelmed. She moved over to him. "Hi," she said. "Are you alright?"

Noel was trying to think of how to get a letter to Jasmine. He didn't really know where she lived, just that he was pretty sure she'd help him. She seemed nice enough and he wanted to believe she was a good person. No. It was more then that. He needed to believe she was a good person, because he needed to know that good people were still out there. If he could get an owl, it would be easy to get her.
Having someone talk to him was strange. He knew he should just hold his tongue and not say anything, but he couldn't help it. "My mom left." This was true. "And my sister's back in England. So I don't know what to do." Jasmine wasn't related to him, unless his mother had been married to father or something like that. Which was possible, given his mother's quick marriages.
The boy might have just been old enough to be okay wanderinf on his own, but he didn't look as though he was okay, and that was concerning for Avery. She wasn't about to just walk past some distressed looking child. She couldn't do that. As the boy mentioned his mum left, she frowned. "Do you mean she's gone into a shop and you don't know which one?" She asked slowly. Surely she wouldn't have just...left. you didnt just go off somewhere and leave your children behind.
"It's okay," she said gently. "We'll find your mum. Do you live somewhere near here, or were you just visiting?" If she wasnt successful in finding his mother maybe she could take him to the police, or Caspian. But she didn't know if the boy was magical. No, she could do this on her own.

Without thinking, Noel shook his head no. If his mother had just gone into a shop, it'd be okay. Then he wouldn't be scared about not seeing her again. "If she did that, it'd be okay." His mother liked to just leave. She said he took her independence away from her but he thought it wasn't too bad. He was only fifteen. He couldn't work or have his own house. Maybe he should talk to Jasmine about it? Jasmine knew everything.
"We were visiting. She wanted to meet her boyfriend so she left." He stated. Was this not what all moms did? "Normally when she feels like doing that, she'd leave me at home." It was the joys of magic. His mom was half veela, but she was also half witch. She could show up where ever she wanted to without too much trouble. He felt more frantic about everything. Maybe if he could just...call Jasmine? Did she even have a phone? He didn't have his owl or anything.
So she'd just...upped and left? Avery frowned more. She couldn't imagine doing that - she would never. She had a hard time leaving Elsie in the care of other people, just abandoning her somewhere alone completely... admittedly Elsie was onto a toddler where this child was not, but all the same...
Not from here. That made it harder, and more concerning. At least if it was somewhere he knew... her eyes narrowed at the comment about visiting the boyfriend. What a stupid reason to abandon your child. Children came first. "Don't worry, we'll find her. Where do you live?"

Noel wasn't sure what to do under this adult's eye. No one generally looked at him like that. Like they were...actually concerned? Jasmine was concerned about him. But her husband didn't care. And for the most part, every other adult in his life didn't care either. "Normally she'd do stuff like this while I'm at Hogwarts." Wait. Shoot. What if she was a muggle? She probably was.
"That's the British boarding school I go to." Smooth, Noel. Smooth. "But normally she just disappears while I'm there. I think she's wanting to see about me going to a boarding school here in America." It was part of their surprise trip. But he didn't want to transfer or leave his life.
Hogwarts? Ah! So he was magical then. Well, that made everything easier. She smiled a little as he tried to cover up his mention of the school. "I know of Hogwarts," she reassured him. "I went to Ilvermorny, it's the...American version of Hogwarts." In a manner of sorts. "So that'd be the one your mum might have been looking at?" Though why someone would move a student when they went to boarding school was a weird thought. Even if the parents moved, the child was away for most of the year, it didn't matter what school they went to.
"Is your mother's boyfriend American? Or would she have gone back to England?" Narrow down the space that they were trying to get the boy too. This was going to be an adventure.

Noel had been panicking over nothing, it seemed. She wasn't too upset about him saying he went to a British boarding school. In fact, she knew it, which made everything just a lot easier. "I think so. I didn't look into the paperwork too much, since I really didn't want to transfer." Noel was almost positive that his mother would change her mind at some point and he'd get to go back to school with his friends. Right? That was the hope, after all.
"I don't really know. I've never met him. She changes boyfriends and husbands like...bi monthly?" He'd had more step dads then almost anyone else in the whole wide world, or so he'd assume. "But I have an older sister type person who's an Auror for the British ministry. If you have an owl I could borrow she'd probably come and get me." Jasmine was the best.
Avery really was not sure about the logic of moving schools when it was a boarding school. It made no difference whether you were in the country or not, because they lived at school. What was the point? "Ah, okay," she just said with a nod. It wasn't as though the boy had any say in that.
As the boy continued to talk about her mother, she frowned some more. She seemed.... troublesome. But it wasn't really her business to get involved at that. "I have an owl back home," she said with a nod. "Or otherwise I could take you to England...?" Anakin had her small, so she didn't have to worry about her for a little while longer.
