Duke's dad had been busy doing stuff and that worked out perfectly for Duke. In all of his exploring, he found a farm. And farms had animals. But once he learned this farm was planning on murdering some of the animals, Duke realized he had to do something. Standing by was not an option. But he had to be careful. After all, he didn't want to end up getting into any sort of trouble, so he'd have to be sort of slow and sneaky about the whole ordeal.
Getting the pig that Duke had bonded with took about three seconds, but getting back to the house took a lot longer. It was harder to be sneaky with a pig under his arm. Maybe he should have gotten a collar or leash for the pig. Would the pig know how to walk with that stuff? It was sort of an option, right? Well, it was too late for that. Instead he was just trying to be sneaky.
Eventually he did make it back to the house. And Sir Piggyback was hungry, so he found a bowl and worked on digging into the fridge. What did pigs eat? He tossed random stuff into the bowl and put it on the floor. Now he was just going to have to find a way to make sure he hid the pig from his dad. But his dad should be busy, so he had time to pet Sir Piggyback.

Duke's babysitter for the day was someone he didn't know. His dad had dropped him off and Duke had called Stranger Danger on this person. But unlike the real Stranger Danger, he hadn't been able to contain the tiny terror. So the little werewolf had swiped a twenty out of the person's wallet and then hit the road. But since he didn't have a real destination in mind, he sort of just meandered in a direction.
It was really cold though and he probably should have a jacket. What was the point of being a werewolf if he didn't even have super cool body heat or anything else like that? Eventually he couldn't just keep going. He didn't have a cell phone or anything cool like that on him, so he had to duck into a diner. It was sort of greasy and he already loved it. It smelled like food and adventure.
Borrowing a phone took seconds, and he dialed Caspian's number. The voice was not Caspian. Maybe it was his roommate? Camden wasn't Caspian. So he hung up. And then he dialed another number that sounded about right. This was also not Caspian. About thirty minutes later he finally had the right number. "Come get me. It's cold." And he hung up. Obviously Caspian would know where he was and how to get him. His uncle was the best.

Duke had pulled his best friend in the whole wide world into this little mission of his. His dad had given him a very small and important package to deliver. Which meant, naturally, the boys wandered around for hours and now were somewhere totally new. But there was a post office and that had to work well. As always, Duke had his best friend's hand in his as he decided to push on into the new building with zero hesitation.
"So...how do you think this works?" But the truth was, he was slowly no longer caring about the package. Instead he wanted to steal an owl. There were so many. There was no way they would notice one little owl missing.

Duke was trying to be happy. His awesome dad was being awesome. But the fact was his mother wasn't around. And without his mother, Duke didn't really know what to do. "Rory?" He could try to smile, but it was difficult. For the first time in about three weeks, Duke had showered off and changed. All of this had been part of his dad's idea. Something about how he'd feel better if he did these things? He just still felt really tired.
"How are you?" He liked his cousin. Rory was like his brother, only he didn't have to share his dad. Really Duke didn't know if he could survive sharing his dad. His dad was precious to him.

Duke hadn't eaten much more then a few bites here or there in a couple of months. Ever since his mother left, he didn't have an appetite. And on top of that, he didn't really want to do anything. His body felt so heavy and he was tired all of the time. So he'd made a small spot for himself under the table and he just curled up there. He never left his table. It was safe there. Nothing bad could happen to him there.
Maybe it was the fact that he hadn't eaten in a few days, but he could have sworn he saw his mother. Only that couldn't be true because she left him. When she realized he wasn't good enough to be her son, she vanished. Really, he wished he could change it, but there was no way to do it. "Mmh not hungry." Although maybe if he hadn't eaten in a bit he should be. The hallucination of his run away mother was obviously a sign that he needed to eat. Or maybe he needed real sleep.

Duke's mother had left him. Duke's mother had decided one day that he wasn't good enough and just left. He wasn't sure how to fix it or even what he would fix. So he'd been under a table. In fact, he'd been under a table since pretty much the first week she was missing. He refused to leave his table and had refused to eat. Instead he now had a pillow and a blanket that his dad had shoved there for him.
But he didn't deserve a pillow or a blanket. He deserved nothing. His mother left because of him. If he hadn't been involved, then she'd still be helping his dad out and everything would be fine. He vaguely heard the question, but felt the same answer he'd been giving any time anyone asked him anything. "Not hungry." Really he just wished Nate would sit. Then he could curl up at Nate's feet. He'd be a better puppy then a person.
